Poker Face season 2 gets a star-studded guest cast! Find out who's joining the Peacock series

As a huge fan of both mystery and suspense stories, I couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming second season of “Poker Face” on Peacock. Rian Johnson’s ability to weave intricate plots with unexpected twists is simply unmatched, and his love for old-school murder mysteries shines through in this unique series.

The second season of “Poker Face” on Peacock is gearing up, and it’s bringing some major star power as guests! Check out who’s signing on.

Rian Johnson is renowned for his witty dialogue, and one of his finest works is “Knives Out” (2019), which was widely praised by critics and viewers due to its classic whodunit style and led to a follow-up, “Glass Onion.” Given Johnson’s fondness for vintage mystery television, it comes as no surprise that he would adapt this concept for his upcoming series in 2023, titled “Poker Face.”

On Peacock’s debut, “Poker Face” introduces Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne), a witty poker player with a knack for cards, who unwittingly gets entangled in the criminal underworld of Las Vegas when she accidentally causes the demise of a mob boss’ son. Fleeing for her life, Charlie travels through quaint towns where she seemingly appears every time a murder occurs. Feeling compelled to unravel the mysteries, she sets out to identify the killers.

The program stands out in two distinct ways. Initially, Charlie possesses an uncanny ability to detect lies in humans. Secondly, this production follows a “reverse mystery” format; it starts with the perpetrator committing the crime and then shows Charlie uncovering the case.

In my opinion, the first season was a massive success among critics, boosted by an exceptional ensemble of guest stars. I was thrilled to see the likes of Chloe Sevigny, Ellen Barkin, Tim Meadows, Nick Nolte, Cherry Jones, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Judith Light grace our screens. And what a remarkable achievement it was when Judith Light took home an Emmy award for her guest role!

As a dedicated gamer following the latest developments in my favorite series, I’m thrilled to share that we’ve got some exciting news! The show was given a green light for a second season, but unfortunately, the 2023 Hollywood strikes caused quite a delay. But fear not, production is finally kicking off with our beloved Lyonne reprising her role as Charlie. Now, I can’t wait to find out who else will be joining her on this new journey!

Who’s set for Poker Face Season 2?

According to Deadline, an impressive roster of talented actors have joined the show for its second season: Giancarlo Esposito, Katie Holmes, Gaby Hoffmann, and Kumail Nanjiani.

Giancarlo Esposito is well-known for gracing crime shows with his presence. His acting career took off on “Homicide: Life on the Street,” where he gained recognition as drug lord Gustavo “Gus” Fring in “Breaking Bad” and its prequel “Better Call Saul,” receiving numerous Emmy nominations for those roles. Since then, Esposito has continued to impress audiences with his performances in series such as “The Boys,” “The Mandalorian,” “Godfather of Harlem,” and “The Gentlemen.”

Katie Holmes, who gained fame as the neighbor of Joey on “Dawson’s Creek,” has gone on to act in various films including “Batman Begins.” Notably, she is also recognized for her high-profile marriage to Tom Cruise. It’s worth mentioning that this will mark Holmes’ first television appearance since the 2017 miniseries “The Kennedys: After Camelot.”

In the ’90s, I was fortunate enough to watch Gabby Hoffman shine as a beloved child actor in iconic movies like “Field of Dreams,” “Uncle Buck,” and “Sleepless in Seattle.” After taking a hiatus from acting in my adult years, Gabby made a triumphant return to the screen in the late 2000s. Primarily working on independent films, she garnered critical acclaim for her role in “Transparent” and became a recurring character on “Winning Time.”

With his versatility in comedy, Kumari Nanjiani has made a name for himself through various roles. From gracing the screens of HBO’s “Silicon Valley” to penning and acting in the critically-adored “The Big Sick,” to joining Marvel’s “Eternals” cast – his repertoire is vast. Most recently, he showcased his talent in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.”

As a longtime fan of intriguing and unpredictable television shows, I’m thrilled to share my perspective on the upcoming season 2 of “Poker Face.” Although the identities of the actors set to join Natasha Lyonne’s Natalie Diaz remain a mystery for now, I have no doubt that each one will bring their distinctive abilities and charisma to an already captivating series.

Poker Face season 1 is streaming on Peacock.
