Pokémon UNITE World Championship 2024: How to watch, format, teams, schedule, and results

As a seasoned esports enthusiast with years of experience under my belt, I must say that the Pokémon UNITE World Championship 2024 lineup is nothing short of impressive! The return of Spragels and Doobsnax to the English broadcast booth is like reuniting with old friends. Their chemistry, wit, and deep understanding of the game make them an unbeatable duo.

The $500,000 tournament is running from August 16 to 17.

Top-ranked Pokémon UNITE teams globally are jetting off to Honolulu, Hawaii for the 2024 World Championship, taking place from August 16th through 17th.

29 teams are presently competing for a slice of the $500,000 prize fund. North America has been dominating so far, having won the first two Pokémon UNITE World Championships in both 2022 and 2023. BLVKHVND and Luminosity Gaming were the champions in these years respectively.

Lightning (team name) once more secured a spot and can attempt to retain their championship, although they’ve got a significantly revamped roster this time around. Tournaments like Worlds are particularly intriguing since it brings together various team strategies, creating an exciting collision of metas in one competition.

In this setup, the total number of teams is 29, and they’ve been organized into eight groups, with some groups containing three teams and others having four teams. During the group stage, a single round-robin tournament structure will be used, meaning that every team plays against each other once. Each match in this phase consists of best-of-three games. The top two teams from each group then proceed to the playoffs.

As soon as the playoffs start, the competition switches to a knockout system where each game is usually decided in three matches, except for the final round known as the grand finals, which consists of five matches.

All matches feature five-versus-five with draft picks

While the winner of the tournament will take home $100,000, the runners-up will earn $75,000. The third-placed and fourth-placed will earn $65,000 and $60,000, respectively.
