Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC introduces a new Mega Z form for Lucario

Mega Lucario Z enters the fray of new Mega Evolution forms in the Pokémon franchise.

Just a week before the release of the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a new Mega Evolution has been revealed: Mega Lucario Z. This exciting addition gives a new form to the Pokémon Lucario, known for its connection to Aura.

It’s uncommon for Pokémon to have more than one Mega Evolution now, but this is the first time a Pokémon that already has a Mega Evolution is getting a different version of it. This new form is officially called Mega Lucario Z, which is different from the usual “Mega X” and “Mega Y” names used for Pokémon like Charizard, Mewtwo, and Pikachu.

The Mega Dimension DLC is coming out on December 10, 2025, and will add Mega Lucario Z to the list of Mega Evolution Pokémon. You can buy the DLC now on the Nintendo eShop.

Mega Lucario Z stats and type: Will the new form change in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

The newest trailer for Mega Lucario Z didn’t say what type it would be, but online Pokémon databases have confirmed it will stay Fighting and Steel, just like regular Lucario. The trailer also showed it using Lucario’s classic move, Aura Sphere, as well as Protect.

Its design suggests this new form will be built for a specific strategy, meaning Mega Lucario Z will likely have different stats than the original Mega Lucario.

Players are eager to see what the Shiny version of Mega Lucario Z will look like. This is especially exciting for those planning to hunt for Shiny Riolu in Legends: Z-A, as they can find it in the building north of Quarsartico Inc.

Mega Lucario Z: Best uses, power breakdown, and trivia

Mega Lucario Z should excel in similar situations where regular Mega Lucario does well. Its Steel typing offers helpful defenses, while its Fighting type allows it to be versatile and strong in many different battles.

We don’t know yet if Mega Lucario Z will focus on Special Attack, but it’s expected to be a very powerful and speedy Fighting-type Pokémon, strong enough to defeat Pokémon like Xerneas that are typically resistant to Fighting moves.

Interestingly, the Pokémon world’s first Mega Evolution is said to have happened with a Lucario. According to legend, a Trainer and their Lucario discovered the original Mega Stone and Key Stone at the Tower of Mastery in Shalour City, within the Kalos region.

Pokémon Legends Z-A features a life-sized replica of the Mega Lucario statue from the Tower of Mastery on display at the Lumiose Museum. A sign explains that Mega Lucario was the first Pokémon to achieve Mega Evolution in the Kalos region.
