In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a key part of the game is rising through the battle ranks. To do this, you’ll face off against Royale Trainers in special promotional matches. These trainers are often very challenging, as they use powerful Pokémon, including those with Mega Evolutions. To succeed, you’ll need to build a team that can effectively counter their strategies.

Throughout your journey in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you’ll encounter special trainers called Royale Trainers, especially during important story moments. The Pokémon they use can even change based on which starter Pokémon you choose. Since you’ll often have to battle them, it’s important to build a strong team to be prepared for these fights.

Who Are Royale Trainers In Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

Elite Opponents With New Mega Forms For Several Team Members

As you climb the ranks in the Z-A Royale, you’ll face off against powerful rival trainers. The Z-A Royale is Lumiose City’s ranked system, showing how strong trainers are – it goes from Rank Z for beginners all the way up to Rank A for the most skilled.

By defeating trainers in different areas of the city, you’ll earn points to get an Event Ticket. These tickets let you battle a special Royale Trainer, and winning is key to climbing the ranks in the Z-A Royale system.

Once you reach Rank A, you can keep battling Royale Trainers as much as you like, but your Rank won’t go any higher. This is designed for players who have completed everything else and want a continuing challenge, allowing them to really master the unique battle mechanics in Legends: Z-A, which are different from traditional Pokémon games.

Every Royale Trainer battles with different Pokémon, and each has strengths and weaknesses. Many Trainers will also have Pokémon that can Mega Evolve, making them powerful opponents. You’ll likely encounter these Mega Evolved Pokémon soon after completing your initial Ranked matches, so be prepared for tougher battles!

Every Royale Trainer Team In Legends: Z-A

Know Which Pokémon Are Your Opponents

You’ll encounter a total of 11 special Trainers called Royale Trainers. Unlike traditional Gym Leaders, they don’t always focus on just one Pokémon type. Instead, each Royale Trainer in Legends: Z-A is best known for their powerful “ace” Pokémon, often featuring its Mega Evolution, which really defines their battle style.

Here’s a breakdown of the Pokémon teams used by each Royale Trainer you face in promotional battles, along with each Pokémon’s weaknesses.

You might have to fight some trainers you’ve already beaten before challenging them again, like Jacinthe, who is highly ranked. Ultimately, the last battle to reach Rank A is against Urbain, who defeated all the other trainers to get there.

Urbain’s Pokémon team is based on the starter you didn’t pick. He’ll have the final evolved forms of the two Pokémon you didn’t choose as your starter. Here’s a look at the Pokémon you’ll battle against Urbain’s team:

• Lvl 62 Goodra (Dragon)
• Lvl 63 Emboar (Fire/Fighting) OR Lvl 63 Meganium (Grass) OR Lvl 63 Feraligatr (Water)

• Lvl 64 Mega Emboar (Fire/Fighting) Or Lvl 64 Mega Meganium (Grass/Fairy) Or Lvl 64 Mega Feraligatr (Water/Dragon)

Urbain’s last Pokémon is specifically designed to beat the Pokémon you chose at the beginning of the game, and it’s also the one on their team that can Mega Evolve. Each Mega Evolution has different weaknesses – Mega Meganium is especially weak to Poison, while Mega Feraligatr becomes weak to Dragon-type attacks. To succeed and climb to the top of the Z-A Rankings, you’ll need to use every possible advantage.

Winning battles against strong opponents in Pokémon Legends: Z-A will unlock valuable rewards, like powerful TM moves for your Pokémon, especially when you defeat trainers who use Mega Evolutions. Knowing what Pokémon each trainer uses lets you build a team that can easily win, helping you get these rewards and climb the ranks faster.
