What is going on in Pokémon GO on April Fools Day?!
Today is April Fools Day, and once more, Pokémon GO is hosting a one-day-special event to celebrate. This year, the game map is filled with Poké Balls, which is a feature reminiscent of mainline Pokémon games, where players can occasionally discover a Poké Ball as they roam around the map.
Let’s dive into all the exciting details about the special, one-time-only April Fools Day event happening in Pokémon GO!
Pokémon GO’s April Fools Day event spawns Poké Balls around the map
This year, just like previous ones, we’ve got another version of April Fools’ Day in the game, and it won’t pass us by! If you’re playing Pokémon GO from midnight to 11:59 pm on April 1st, you’ll notice an abundance of Poké Balls popping up on your map.
These elements are interactive; when clicked, they offer two possible outcomes. Either you’ll stumble upon a random encounter with one of several Pokémon, or you’ll receive an item. Keep in mind that these can be found everywhere, so don’t forget to venture out and discover what treasures await!
The possible Pokémon you can encounter are:
- Voltorb
- Hisuian Voltorb
- Hisuian Electrode
- Electrode
- Foongus
- Amoonguss
- Galarian Stunfisk
Instead, the collection includes Poké Balls, Great Balls, and Ultra Balls, but other items might also be discovered. After all, surprises can happen anytime!

Special April Fools Day Spotlight Hour
On April 1st, the date falls on a Tuesday, typically featuring a Spotlight Hour between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm in your local time zone. However, this will be an exceptional April Fools’ Day event for Pokémon GO, as more Poké Balls will be visible across the map during that hour.
You’ll still receive a bonus, doubling the Catch Candy count. This might be our sole chance for a Spotlight Hour event like this, so don’t miss out and come join in the fun!
