Great news for Pokémon fans! The classic games FireRed and LeafGreen are officially being released on the Nintendo Switch, and it’s happening very soon.

Wow, what a day to be a Pokémon fan! Honestly, whether you’ve been with Pokémon since the very beginning or you’re just discovering it now, it’s always been a place where everyone feels welcome. And the news today is incredible – they’re bringing FireRed and LeafGreen to the Nintendo Switch! I can’t wait to replay those classics!

Here is everything we know.

Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen ports announced for Nintendo Switch

I still remember when the very first Pokémon games, Red and Blue (and Green in Japan!), came out way back in 1996. It was amazing! Then, eight years later, they totally revamped those original games and released FireRed and LeafGreen. Honestly, those remakes are considered some of the best Pokémon games ever made, and I definitely agree!

And now, you will be able to play them on your Nintendo Switch.

Pokémon appeals to a wide range of fans. No matter if you enjoy the video games, trading cards, animated series, or anything else related to Pokémon, the Pokémon Company welcomes everyone.

With FireRed and LeafGreen now available on the Switch, many longtime Pokémon fans will be returning to the game.

The company revealed on Twitter that the new games will be released shortly after the Pokémon Day presentation on February 27, 2026, at 9 a.m. EST. These games will only be available as digital downloads on the Nintendo eShop.

But are they Switch 2 exclusives?

Are the games Switch 2 exclusives?

Since Pokémon Pokopia is only coming to the Switch 2, some fans were concerned that the new FireRed and LeafGreen remakes might be the same. But don’t worry! These ports will be released on both the original Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2, so everyone will be able to enjoy them.

They are classic sprite games, so it does not take a lot of hardware to support them.

Pokémon has revealed that players will soon be able to trade and battle with each other, bringing the complete FireRed and LeafGreen experience to life.

Price

The price for the upcoming releases of LeafGreen and FireRed hasn’t been officially announced yet. However, a recent leak on Twitter indicates they might cost around 2,000 yen in Japan, which is about $13 US dollars.

We can probably expect Nintendo eShop games to be priced between $10 and $15.

How excited are you for Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen to be releasing on the Nintendo Switch?
