Vince Gilligan, the mind behind the hit show Breaking Bad and its follow-ups Better Call Saul and El Camino, is back with a new sci-fi series called Pluribus. Interestingly, the show’s title seems to hint at the story’s central theme.
One of Chris Carter’s biggest early hits was the sci-fi series, The X-Files. Now, he seems to be revisiting that genre, and like with The X-Files, he’s using a clever title to give a hint about the show’s content. The word ‘pluribus,’ though, isn’t widely known, even if it sounds a little familiar.
Pluribus Comes From The Latin Phrase “E Pluribus Unum”

The word ‘pluribus’ comes from Latin and means “of many” or “from many.” It’s often seen in the phrase “E pluribus unum,” which translates to “out of many, one.” This phrase is a traditional motto of the United States.
The phrase represents two key ideas about the USA. First, it highlights how 50 individual states collaborate to form a unified nation. Second, it acknowledges the country’s origins as a diverse collection of people from around the globe who came together to build a new life and society.
The phrase “E pluribus unum” has thirteen letters, a detail that resonated with the original thirteen American colonies as they fought for independence. But the new film, Pluribus, appears to tell a very different story.
What The “Pluribus” Title Means For Apple TV’s Sci-Fi Show

The show Pluribus uses a unique title design where the ‘i’ in the name looks like the number ‘1’. This visual choice suggests the show is about a broader concept than just the Latin meaning of the word ‘pluribus’, and is supported by scenes of characters speaking at the same time.
It’s clear something unusual is happening, bringing a lot of people together in a shared way of thinking. The show’s science fiction elements suggest this could be caused by aliens or a new scientific discovery. However, not everyone is affected – Rhea Seehorn’s character, for example, seems to be an exception.
Something is clearly wrong, and there’s a woman who might be able to fix it. However, with everyone acting in unison, it could be very hard to restore things to normal in Pluribus.
