Please Don’t Give Reacher Another Love Interest In Season 4

In the first three seasons of “Reacher”, each one introduces a new love interest for the main character. However, I’m eager to see a break from this pattern. After another fantastic episode, season 3 of “Reacher” has once again shown why it ranks among the best action shows on television with its captivating action sequences and high tension. The latest installment is my favorite so far, thanks to the intriguing undercover storyline and formidable villains. This demonstrates that Amazon Prime Video’s hit series still has a lot of energy left in it. Nevertheless, while the overall format has been almost perfect up until now, I believe it’s time for a significant shift in the romantic storylines of “Reacher”.

In the first season, the love story between him and Roscoe was skillfully constructed, with their bond growing naturally over eight episodes. However, despite appearing to be an ideal pair, they parted ways by the third season, a fact underscored by Reacher’s lack of mention of Roscoe in season 3. This suggests that their relationship may indeed have ended for good. The romance between him and Dixon in the second season worked well due to their shared history, but it seemed less compelling compared to his connection with Roscoe. Nevertheless, they made a suitable couple. However, after Duffy’s role in season 3, I feel that the next installment could do without another romantic subplot.

Duffy Was Great, But Her & Reacher’s Romance Was Largely Pointless

They Only Had A Few Brief Romantic Moments & Could Easily Have Worked As Platonic Partners

In the third season of the show, Duffy stood out as an exceptional DEA agent with intelligence, skill, and integrity who significantly advanced the storyline. She proved to be a fantastic addition to the stellar cast in Reacher, but their romantic involvement seemed unnecessary. Although Reacher and Duffy had engaging dialogues and shared similar thought processes, making them effective partners, their romantic connection didn’t seem as strong as that between Roscoe and Dixon.

Duffy was a fantastic DEA agent in season 3 of Reacher, contributing greatly to the plot. She fit well with the show’s excellent cast, but her romance with Reacher felt unnecessary compared to the connection between Roscoe and Dixon. They made a great team due to their shared mindsets, but their romantic spark was not as evident.

Their romance between Reacher and Duffy developed slowly throughout the story, appearing intermittently as if to guarantee a love interest for Reacher before reaching the end. However, in the end, it turned out to be inconsequential, just like in the last two series, where they decided to prioritize themselves instead of pursuing their feelings further. Regrettably, Duffy ending things with Reacher felt almost predictable and lacked impact compared to his emotional scenes with Roscoe and Dixon.

If they had merely stayed as friends with no romantic involvement, their bond wouldn’t have significantly altered the narrative or its essence. Their feelings for each other didn’t hinder their mission or cloud their judgment, suggesting that their physical intimacy was not essential to their relationship. It is evident, however, that Duffy played a significant role in Reacher season 3; yet, it appears their short-lived romance lacked depth and significance, rendering it unnecessary.

Reacher Having A Different Love Interest Each Season Is Starting To Wear Thin

Each Of Reacher’s Love Interests Have Felt A Little Weaker Than The Last

The recurring theme of the action hero dating numerous women over time is an old trope, famously embodied by James Bond. Yet, even though the novels also follow this pattern, Reacher’s TV portrayal seems to be growing tired of it. It’s fantastic that Reacher’s female leads aren’t just love interests and frequently have their own opportunities to display strength and heroism. However, introducing more characters like Neagley, who has distinguished herself as a crucial ally to the protagonist without any romantic connection, would make the series even more engaging.

I’m quite thrilled if Reacher brings in fresh love interests as long as they add substance to the plot, similar to what we saw in season 1. However, the fact that Reacher’s bond with Duffy demonstrates not every connection will be equally powerful suggests we might encounter less intense romances in the future. This could lead to a more consistent romantic interest for the main character across multiple seasons or keeping these stories occasional; otherwise, it could become increasingly difficult to care about these relationships, as season 3 has hinted at.

Reacher Season 4 Would Be Better Off Bringing Back Season 1’s Roscoe

If Reacher Has To Have A Romantic Story In Season 4, Roscoe Is A Far Better Choice Than Another Temporary Fling

In essence, even though season 4 of Reacher doesn’t necessarily require a romantic interest, if the series insists on this element for each installment, reintroducing Roscoe would be the optimal choice. Keep in mind that Amazon’s interpretation of Reacher has already deviated from the books and the Tom Cruise films while staying faithful to the source material, implying the writers might pull it off. She is hands down the most suitable match for Reacher’s character, and it’s highly probable that fans who have been with the series since the beginning would welcome their on-screen reunion.

After bringing Finlay back in Season 2, even though some viewers might have found that decision a bit unexpected, there’s no reason Season 4 can’t go even further and reintroduce Roscoe as a key character once more. Although it remains unclear if Reacher will continue for many seasons or if it will eventually reach a conclusive ending, establishing a meaningful relationship for him would help tie the entire story together, giving greater significance to earlier portrayals of the character. Consequently, I’d be thrilled to see Roscoe return in Reacher Season 4, as long as they steer clear of a romance subplot that doesn’t add much depth to the narrative.
