PlayStation’s Next Big Game Is Already In Trouble

PlayStation studios have a long history of creating incredibly popular and successful games. However, recent reports indicate that there’s now a lot of pressure to consistently deliver new titles, which has led to very tight and demanding schedules.

According to Bloomberg, a big PlayStation game is facing difficulties and doesn’t have a confirmed release date.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Is Still In Development

And There’s A Lot Of Work Left

Bloomberg reports that Naughty Dog is working hard to finish an early demo of their upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Intergalactic is a science fiction action-adventure game centered around bounty hunter Jordan Mun, played by Tati Gabrielle, and appears to be a more ambitious project than many of their previous titles.

The game’s potential has already been heavily discussed, especially after director Neil Druckmann hinted the trailer only showed a small part of what’s in store. However, new reports suggest there might be problems behind the scenes. Bloomberg claims the studio has been asking employees to work significantly longer hours – reportedly an extra eight hours per week since late October. On top of that, staff are now required to work in the office five days a week, after previously having a three-day remote schedule.

Okay, so the game is still looking at a 2027 release, which is great! But honestly, reading the latest reports, it sounds like things are really intense internally. I’m hearing that people are struggling to balance work with their personal lives – like trying to find childcare and pet care – and it’s been happening for a while now. Apparently, this isn’t new; it sounds like Naughty Dog has dealt with similar crunch issues on past projects, which is a little worrying.

Naughty Dog Has Been Busy

Plus, There’s The Last Of Us TV show

Naughty Dog’s current situation feels similar to how Telltale Games grew quickly. They’re handling several updated versions of older games, and many team members are also working on The Last of Us TV series, which has significantly increased their visibility. However, this report suggests that increased attention might be causing some problems.

PlayStation is facing a critical moment as it tries to build on its history while also moving forward. It will be fascinating to see how the brand evolves, and right now, keeping its skilled employees is key to its success.
