Player 456 is back in the game in the Squid Game season 2 teaser!

Well now, as a gamer who’s been through more game-related heartache than a season pass of Red Dead Redemption, I can say with all certainty that the announcement of Squid Game Season 2 has me feeling like I’ve just found a hidden Bionic Bandaid in Fortnite. Three years is an eternity in gaming time, and I’ve been counting down the days since that final round of Red Light, Green Light.

Wowzers! The brief trailer for Squid Game season 2 has me absolutely thrilled to dive back into this heart-pounding universe and participate in the game yet again. And guess who’s making a return? None other than Player 456, or Seong Gi-hun himself! But just what drives him this time around? We’ll delve into some speculations soon enough, but for now, take a peek at the enticing video Netflix has shared.

From what we saw earlier, Gi-hun is gearing up to rejoin the game again, picking up from where season 1 ended, with his promise of seeking revenge against those orchestrating this game. It seems he might be looking for a means to dismantle it. However, since three years have passed since his bittersweet triumph, one might wonder if his objectives remain the same.

1) Additionally, it’s the main character who appears at Gi-hun’s house. It seems he wants Player 456 to rejoin the game again. Given his circumstances, it looks like he might be in a tough spot and is considering taking another chance. As we learned from the summary, he had given up on going to America where his daughter and former wife now reside. Here’s the complete rundown:

Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.

On Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024, we can finally watch the next season of the popular K-drama, “Squid Game.” It’s likely that Gi-hun is coming back for revenge, but we’ll have to wait and see. Lee Jung-jae reprises his role as Seong Gi-hun, while Lee Byung-hun plays Hwang In-ho, the Front Man, Wi Ha-joon portrays Hwang Jun-ho, Officer and Front Man’s brother, and Gong Yoo takes on the character of a salesman who secretly recruits players for the game.

From what I gather, it seems like Hwang might still be alive, despite being shot by his brother at the end of season one. Given how endearing and fascinating his character is, I can’t help but feel eager to follow his journey now that he’s aware of his brother’s dark secrets. The upcoming developments promise to be quite intriguing!

Of course, there are several fresh faces joining the cast this time around. Regrettably, all the characters we encountered during the first season have met their end. It’s worth mentioning that the game offers a substantial reward for 456 participants. Here’s the roster of our new cast members:

  • Yim Si-wan
  • Kang Ha-neul
  • Park Gyu-young
  • Lee Jin-uk
  • Park Sung-hoon
  • Yang Dong-geun
  • Kang Ae-sim

The great news is that Squid Game season 3 has already been confirmed at Netflix, will be coming in 2025, and it’s going to be the final season. Even though I’m sure all of us would love for this show to keep going, it does need to come to an end and we don’t want to story drawn out too much. So I think having that game plan, pun intended, and knowing to end it on a high note is what’s going to be best!

Squid Game season 2 premieres Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024 on Netflix.
