PlatinumGames Has Removed Project G.G. From its Website, Sparking Fears it May Have Been Cancelled
It seems that “Project G.G.”, which was expected to be PlatinumGames‘ first self-published game and reportedly their venture into a live-service model, has been taken down from their official site, sparking concerns that the project might have been cancelled.
Described as the “powerful finale” in Hideki Kamiya’s superhero series that consists of Viewtiful Joe and The Wonderful 101, Project G.G. is one of several projects that appear to have been removed from Platinum Games’ website, but it’s unclear exactly why this has happened.
Despite active links to titles such as the canceled “Babylon’s Fall” and exclusive-to-Wii “Madworld,” VGC shares that numerous links have been removed, redirecting users to their homepage instead. Trying to reach a blog post about “Project G.G.” also leads nowhere.
The “Project G.G.”, initially introduced in 2020, was designed as an action game inspired by Ultraman, featuring a character capable of growing to massive proportions to battle gigantic monsters reminiscent of Godzilla. However, the departure of Kamiya from Platinum Games in 2023 might have caused development to slow down.
At present, Kamiya is engaged in developing a much-anticipated follow-up to the game “Okami” for Capcom, in collaboration with the new studio Clovers. Concurrently, JP Kellams, who was previously employed at Platinum Games and now works for Epic Games, seems distressed by the removal of numerous titles from Capcom’s official website.
On Twitter/X, he expressed his disappointment after noticing that PlatinumGames was removing its past achievements from its website. He couldn’t fathom the reason behind this action, but found it truly unfortunate. He even joked about whether they also removed the rugs in the lobby. As someone who took pride in contributing to those games, he felt deeply offended by this move.
