Pixar is making Incredibles 3, but the release is fuzzy
As a seasoned gamer and animation enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and reservation about the upcoming sequels from Pixar. On one hand, their ability to consistently deliver captivating stories, like Soul, Turning Red, Luca, and the forthcoming Hoppers, is truly commendable. They have mastered the art of balancing originality with franchised storytelling, making it easier for fans like me to embrace sequels such as Toy Story 4, Lightyear, and Inside Out 2.
It’s highly likely that more Toy Story movies will be made; Toy Story 5 is scheduled for release in June 2026. However, another Pixar sequel that seems predictable now is The Incredibles 3. This project has been confirmed to be in development during the D23 event.
As a dedicated fan, I appreciate that Pixar, under the Disney umbrella, skillfully maintains a blend of original and franchise narratives. The creative magic from their golden era in 3D CG animation is very much alive in contemporary films like Soul, Turning Red, Luca, and the upcoming Hoppers. This allows for the more straightforward acceptance of exercises such as Toy Story 4, Lightyear, and even Inside Out 2, which, despite its immense success (becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time with over a billion dollars) and my personal affection for it, we can’t deny that Pixar will continue to explore sequels.
In February, Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, told shareholders of The Walt Disney Company that he wouldn’t allow his studios to be overly innovative, given the company’s current financial struggles. Instead, they would focus on sequels. As a result, films like Toy Story, Zootopia, Frozen, and even Incredibles were slated for new installments in the future. This is how Pixar came up with Incredibles 3.
Once again, the studio appears to be meticulously working on the upcoming film, with Brad Bird returning as director, much like he did for the previous installments. Unfortunately, there’s no release date yet, and information is sparse. However, unlike many franchise factories, Pixar has the luxury of taking its time to ensure the movie turns out perfectly.
Hey, at least we’ll have an actual Fantastic Four movie to bide our time.
