Pierce Brosnan, 72, reveals why he’s given up performing stunts and vows to continue acting until his ‘very last breath’ as he poses for striking GQ shoot

Pierce Brosnan has stopped doing his own stunts in movies, choosing instead to focus on enjoying life and continuing to act for as long as he lives. He’s accepting the process of aging and prioritizing his longevity as an actor.

The 72-year-old actor, best known for playing James Bond, did many of his own stunts during his time as the famous British spy.

The James Bond actor discussed his desire to age well in a recent interview and photoshoot, timed to coincide with his recognition at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards in London on Tuesday.

He told GQ that he’s intentionally focused on moving forward, embracing his age and everything that comes with it.

‘I don’t want to jump out of airplanes. Jump on the bus. Jump off the bus.’

Pierce Brosnan says he plans to keep acting well into his 80s, declaring, ‘I’ll continue to create as long as I live.’

Pierce looked dapper as he posed in a tweed suit and black turtleneck for the striking shoot.

He also wore a wool jacket over a a black suit and completed both looks with a pair of sunglasses.

The acclaimed actor isn’t planning to retire anytime soon. They recently appeared in the Netflix drama The Thursday Murder Club and currently star in the Paramount+ series MobLand.

Pierce is hoping to be in another installment of The Thursday Murder Club, and he recently began filming for the second season of Mob Land.

He shared that the past two years of consistent work have been wonderful, giving him the opportunity to take on a variety of roles.

Honestly, it’s amazing because it lets me live the part, you know? I don’t just play the character, I get to explore everything that makes them them – their whole persona, what they represent, everything! It’s like stepping inside this incredible image someone else has built, and just… becoming it. It’s pure magic, really.

You know, as someone who’s observed a lot of successful people, I’ve learned that finding balance is key. This Irish actor recently shared something I really connected with – he used to worry about not spending enough time with his sons. So, even when his career was booming, he intentionally rearranged things to make sure he could be present for them as much as possible. It’s a great reminder that success isn’t just about work, it’s about cherishing those family moments.

He admitted to often wondering if he’d spent enough quality time with his sons, questioning if he’d given them the attention they deserved.

Having had such a successful and satisfying career, Pierce Brosnan said he’s content with his time as James Bond and doesn’t feel the need to return to the role.

He acknowledged people often ask if he’d ever play James Bond, but he emphasized that role belongs to someone else.

Honestly, I’m really energized by the potential of this project! There’s so much room for creativity and fun, and I’m genuinely excited to see how it all unfolds. It feels like a really promising opportunity, and I can’t wait to see what we create.

Life is constantly changing and things eventually fall apart, so it’s best to relax and accept it. Sometimes it’s worth engaging with those changes, and other times it’s better to simply let them go.

He acknowledges the enduring appeal of the spy genre – the world of sophisticated agents and action that he was once so closely associated with.

‘I was playing within the proscenium arch of espionage – MI5, MI6. Audiences enjoy that.

It’s been incredible transitioning from being James Bond to playing M – the head of the organization. He’s such a fascinating character, a really contained and calculating presence, like a spider carefully watching everything from its web. It’s a completely different challenge, and I’m loving it.

Pierce has previously said it is a ‘given’ that Daniel Craig’s successor should be British.

This comes after worries that the James Bond franchise may lose its British identity now that Amazon MGM Studios has taken over creative decisions for the character.

This February, the studio announced it will share ownership with Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the longtime producers of the James Bond films, having worked together on every movie since 1995’s GoldenEye.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Pierce stated that while he’d anticipated the decision for a while, he believed it was the best course of action for Barbara and Michael.

It’s brave of them to step away, and they’ll still be involved in decisions. I’m hoping Amazon treats the work and the characters with respect, creativity, and care.

As a longtime fan, I’ve been really starting to wonder what’s next for James Bond. It’s been a while since Daniel Craig’s last film, No Time To Die, back in 2021, and we still haven’t heard anything about who will be taking on the role next. The speculation is definitely building!

Pierce Brosnan began his run as James Bond with the film GoldenEye, marking the start of a new creative direction led by producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. He last played Bond in Die Another Day, released in 2002.

Pierce Brosnan will be honoured at the GQ Men of the Year event on November 18 in London.
