Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Tomb Raider TV Series is DEAD
It appears that the much-anticipated, high-cost Tomb Raider TV show from Phoebe Waller-Bridge may have encountered an obstacle – or perhaps it’s more like they’ve stumbled upon a cleverly laid trap?
Following prolonged delays in production, due to Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s scripts requiring extensive refinement before they were deemed suitable for filming, insiders report that the prospect of introducing Lara Croft on television has essentially been abandoned.
Indeed, as of now, there appears to be no indication that it will be filmed ‘in early 2025’, contrary to the statement made by a Prime Video executive last year.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m keeping an ear to the ground regarding the buzz surrounding Sophie Turner, the talented actress from Game of Thrones. Rumors had it she was in talks to embody Lara Croft, but it seems her schedule for this year is brimming with other film projects. A reliable source has shared a piece of information that it might not materialize as planned.
A spokesperson for Prime Video had no comment; nor did representatives for Waller-Bridge.
Last week, the project suffered a significant setback as Jennifer Salke, who initiated Tomb Raider and directly supervised it at Amazon Studios, was let go from her position as the studio’s head.
In 2019, when Phoebe Waller-Bridge was at the peak of her fame following the success of Fleabag, Salke, then the head of entertainment at NBC, sealed a lucrative contract worth $20 million per year with handcuffs made of gold – figuratively speaking.
The highly publicized agreement, believed to have earned the renowned British actor a staggering sum of $100 million, has unfortunately gained infamy as one of Hollywood’s biggest blunders.

It has resulted in not a single minute of broadcast content to date.
Over the last six years, Waller-Bridge has assumed two acting positions – one for the movie “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”, produced by Disney, and another for the animated film “If” from Paramount Pictures.
As a devoted fan following the development of the TV reboot for the movie “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” I was initially thrilled to be part of it, taking on both acting and writing roles. However, in 2021, I made the difficult decision to step away from the project. Unfortunately, despite my initial involvement, I did not receive any writing credit when the series eventually premiered, featuring Maya Erskine and Donald Glover in the lead roles instead.
Despite everything previously mentioned, the handcuff agreement was renewed in 2022, and it became known that Waller-Bridge was busy developing a high-budget television series inspired by the Tomb Raider video game franchise.
In 2023, Salke expressed his joy, saying, “We’re thrilled to have kept her on board as she spent her childhood playing Lara Croft/Tomb Raider. We believe this could lead to a massive franchise for us.
In the very same year, Waller-Bridge expressed to Vanity Fair: ‘It was a wonderful chance to create… a strong female action character. Having refined dialogue for Bond [on No Time To Die] and acting on Indy, I feel like I’ve been preparing myself for this role.’
The initial indications of significant problems arose last October when it was observed that Waller-Bridge did not attend Amazon’s Trailblazers event in London, as previously mentioned in this column.
According to Matt Belloni from the news site Puck, it appears that the script for Tomb Raider is yet to be written, despite significant investments being made in its development.
According to Belloni, Waller-Bridge’s agreement with Amazon was discreetly extended prior to Salke’s departure, shifting it to a non-exclusive, first-look contract; and at a significantly reduced cost compared to the original amount.
OMG! Kyle Walker’s WAG woes continue… via text
Be careful when accepting an ‘olive branch’ — it may contain a thorn or two.
For Kyle Walker’s enduring spouse, Annie, the latest incident involving his former girlfriend, Lauryn Goodman, served as a stark reminder of the complexities and challenges in relationships, especially when it comes to public figures.
Lauryn reached out to Annie, her love competitor, to arrange a meeting, and proposed that their children, born from England’s star Walker, could become acquainted. Interestingly, Annie has four kids with Kyle, while Lauryn has two.
News of this then somehow found its way into the newspapers.
What remained unmentioned was that, apart from her music, Lauryn had expressed doubt about Walker by stating, “I’ve always found it hard to believe what he tells you about you, given all I’ve heard from him over the years.” Aha!

According to Annie’s friends, she seems to be using a strategy known as “turning to gray stone” – this means she isn’t replying to messages, hoping that her silence will make the other person less likely to continue reaching out to her.
But a source said that privately, she regards this latest move as ‘textbook harassment’.
It was noted that: ‘Annie received these messages during Kyle’s time in England. They prompted memories of when Lauryn disclosed that Kyle was the father of her daughters Kinara and Kairo, which she announced on December 27, 2023, while Kyle was playing for Man City.’
While Lauryn appears to be acting with the family’s well-being in mind, Annie finds it distressing that she involves the children in these matters.
And there are a lot of children in this convoluted affair.
In the year 2020, Kyle became a father to Kairo, who was born with Lauryn. At that time, he had previously welcomed three children with Annie (Annie Kilner) prior to this event.
2021 saw him marry Annie, however, his relationship with Lauryn persisted, leading to the birth of their second child, Kinara, in August 2023.
Four months down the line, while Annie was expecting, she got a surprising text from Lauryn: “Hi Annie, this is Lauryn. Just letting you know that Kyle is the father of our little girl.
The news prompted Annie to kick her husband out of the house.
Last spring, their fourth child – a son called Rezon – was born.
During the summer, she initiated a divorce. However, by the fall, Kyle had returned, and they celebrated Christmas as a couple.

Initially, friends delayed any legal steps, preferring instead to address their issues privately, within their family circle.
Since Walker has relocated to Italy for a temporary assignment with AC Milan, he and Annie are actively discussing their future plans, yet they continue to stand by each other as husband and wife, focusing on bringing up their kids harmoniously.
Forsyte: It’s the gift that keeps on giving
There’s plenty of faith in the continued pulling power of The Forsyte Saga.
Before the premiere of the initial season of the recent adaptation, production for the second season has already commenced.
Starting this year, I’m thrilled to share that a new series titled “The Forsytes” will be airing on Channel 5. In this captivating drama, Millie Gibson from Doctor Who steps into the elegant shoes of Irene, a role previously brought to life by Nyree Dawn Porter in the 1967 adaptation of John Galsworthy’s novels. I can’t wait for you all to witness her interpretation!
Actress Eleanor Tomlinson, known for her role in Poldark, is set to portray character Louisa Byrne, a dressmaker; while Susan Hampshire, famously Fleur Forsyte from the 1967 drama, will reprise her role as Lady Carteret.
The grand depiction of a prosperous British family set in 1880s London, as penned by Galsworthy, was reimagined for television in 2002 by ITV, featuring Damian Lewis and Gina McKee among its actors.
The most recent version was penned by Debbie Horsfield, who is known for her work on Poldark, and it is a production under the Masterpiece banner of PBS.

Cinema owners brace for Beatles binge: four fab films in one day
Mutterings about the Sam Mendes Beatles films at CinemaCon.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve got some insights to share about the response from cinema-goers in Las Vegas towards the release strategy for the individual films featuring John, Paul, George, and Ringo. The buzz isn’t quite what was expected, particularly when rumors swirl that director Mendes is considering a simultaneous unveiling of all four movies. This approach, referred to as a ‘Beatles binge’, seems less appealing to the audience who prefer a more traditional release schedule, allowing them to savor each story individually rather than consuming them all at once.
My source shares this insight: ‘Cinema operators hesitate to temporarily shut down four screens, as it could mean missing out on other films with greater earning possibilities at the box office.
Additionally, if certain movies gain more popularity than others, how would that be handled? It seems several proprietors are finding it difficult to imagine audiences paying to watch a movie featuring Ringo. (This sentence maintains the original meaning and is written in an engaging and easy-to-understand style.)

Harsh!
Nevertheless, there was much excitement for the upcoming Superman film, set to release in July. Director James Gunn declared with pride: “This film embodies themes of kindness and human affection.
He created a character for dogs – Superman’s pet, Krypto – and modeled this flying hound after his own deceased dog.
Rescue pooch, Ozu, used to run away from his owner, break things around the house, and would bite at his owner’s feet when on video calls. (Simplified)
Gunn mused that it made him think: ‘What if my dog had super powers? I’d be f***ed.’
Jessie resurrects the Bride of Frankenstein
In an intriguing twist, actress Jessie Buckley embodies the spirit of Bonnie and Clyde in her portrayal of the spouse and criminal accomplice to Frankenstein’s creature, a role taken on by Christian Bale.
This week, Buckley, renowned from the 2008 BBC talent show I’d Do Anything, touched down in Las Vegas with a pair of sunglasses and an upbeat mood, for the event known as CinemaCon.
Following a sneak preview of the movie where she miraculously comes back to life following a brutal fall down the stairs, she mused about the dark and unconventional romance that lies at the core of the production. ‘It’s the most raw, rebellious love I’ve ever seen!’ she exclaimed.
It reminds me of the dynamic between Bonnie and Clyde, as well as the movie “Wild at Heart.” I believe there’s an element of combustibility in them, and we’re getting dangerously close to igniting that spark.

Movie Director Maggie Gyllenhaal reimagines the tale from Mary Shelley’s timeless novel and places it in 1930s Chicago. The overall feel of the movie can be summarized by its catchy tagline: “The Arrival of the Unconventional Bride.
The film comes out in March next year.
Songwriting icon Dianne Warren has invited Sydnie Christmas, the victor of Britain’s Got Talent, to Los Angeles for a recording session with her. Dianne Warren is renowned for composing chart-topping hits for artists such as Cher, Michael Bolton, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift.
Sydnie has been gaining traction in the U.S. Recently, her first album “My Way” topped the US iTunes pop charts last fall. Next week, she will be making her live debut in New York for the very first time.
Might McDonald’s one day get a ‘By Appointment To’ crest?
Tom Parker Bowles, the son of the Queen, expresses his strong affection by stating that if his final meal on Earth were to be chosen, it would be a Big Mac.

He told the Table Manners podcast: ‘As a main course, I should say roast chicken or a Big Mac.
‘The cheeseburger is about as perfect a creation as you could ever have. I love it.’
He stated: ‘I dislike Burger King. It doesn’t fit into my schedule. However, I excel in making witty remarks at KFC and I genuinely appreciate Nando’s.’
And to start his last supper? Food writer Tom says: ‘Caviar. As much as I could eat.’
Party? I’d rather hide in the loo..
As a die-hard fan, I’ve got to warn young author Jack Thorne – brace yourself for the whirlwind of awards ceremonies and galas; they’re heading your way, but let me tell you, they’re not exactly my cup of tea!
On the Headliners podcast, Thorne, who is 46 years old, shared: “These days, I tend to skip the after-parties. Instead, I attend award functions and contribute as needed. If given the opportunity, I might deliver a speech. However, once that’s done, I usually depart.

He stated, “At the age of 46, I feel entirely at ease with myself,” and further explained, “I often decline invitations to social gatherings when they come my way.
Thorne reminded himself of the time he was invited to an after-party following his win at the London Film Festival. He admitted, “I didn’t know a soul there.” Feeling rather alone, he walked in, saw no one to converse with, and contemplated, “Could I leave right away?
Upon discovering that the response to his query was Negative, he said, “I spent an hour in the restroom, followed by my departure.
