As a seasoned viewer of television shows spanning decades, I must admit that the announcement of Phillip Schofield’s return to our screens has left me rather perplexed. With a career that spans over three decades and numerous accolades under his belt, one would think that the public’s reaction would be more positive. However, the backlash against him seems to be overwhelming.

Philip Schofield received support from his ex-co-hosts Dermot O’Leary, Alison Hammond, and Josie Gibson when he declared his comeback to television following his stint on the show “Cast Away.

The disgraced presenter has secretly filmed a special three part series for Channel 5, which required him to give up his home comforts for 10 days of soul-searching on a tropical island in the Indian Ocean, which he described as his ‘story of survival’.

Schofield last appeared on television following his departure from ITV’s This Morning in May 2023, which was after he confessed to being involved romantically with a significantly younger female coworker.

According to The Mirror, he announced the news on Instagram, accompanied by a sneak peek of the upcoming show, which garnered likes from Alison, Dermot, and Josie.

Comments on the post had been turned off and there was no sign of his former close friend Holly Willoughby supporting him after he posted the announcement.

Speaking with The Sun, Vanessa Feltz, a frequent guest on This Morning, expressed her surprise yet delight about the new show. She hopes it will provide excellent entertainment and help him accomplish whatever goals he has in mind.

‘I’d like to see it, I’m intrigued to see it and I wish him all the very best.’

“I understand why he selected it, even though it wasn’t my first guess. To me, he appears to be the one with control over it because he’s the sole participant and the only cameraman.

On GB News this week, Eamonn Holmes expressed a more critical response, chuckling skeptically and commenting sarcastically with “very good” as the news topic was being discussed.

As a devoted fan, I couldn’t help but share my thoughts on the buzz that Nadia Sawalha’s comments created regarding the trailer that went viral yesterday. Everyone seemed to be taken aback by it, including myself.

‘When I was first sent it, there was no message with it, so I thought it was a joke.

Initially, I found myself wincing upon viewing the video. To be truthful, the sight of it made me feel quite uncomfortable and I instantly thought, “That’s incredibly awkward.” This was my immediate reaction.

It seems that he has presented his perspective on the matter. It appears that we have been exposed primarily to his viewpoint, as he conducted a wide-ranging article in The Sun and multiple other interviews.

Apart from being intelligent, he seems adept at grasping an audience and communicating effectively with them. Therefore, it appears that he will handle things meticulously. In other words, yes, I believe he will exercise extreme caution.

‘He lied to everybody at work. He left people to deal with his s**t, I feel, in my opinion.’

Philip emotionally wept, confessing that the controversy surrounding his exit from This Morning had left him devastated, as he unveiled a sneak peek of his upcoming TV survival series today.

For an extended period, a controversy that grabbed widespread attention dismantled the bond between him and his fellow host Holly, leaving his spouse Steph heartbroken.

In 2020, the couple parted ways after Philip disclosed he was gay. They maintained a close relationship up until the point when Philip’s deceit was uncovered.

Channel 5 has verified that Philip was placed on his own, surrounded by just a few cameras to record his personal journey ordeal. (or) Channel 5 confirmed that Philip was left solo, with only a few cameras present to capture his unique and intense personal challenge.

Today, one scene from the series features me, teary-eyed before the camera, expressing: “What I’ve done might have been imprudent, but could it bring about total ruin for another?

Though I eagerly anticipate that this move could potentially bring me closer to my audience, it seems the show has sparked widespread criticism from both the general public and television critics. Some have even gone as far as calling it a ‘disgrace,’ while others label the ex-presenter as ‘narcissistic.’

The show is scheduled to be broadcast over three consecutive nights starting on Monday, September 30, and continuing until Wednesday, October 2. Each night’s episode will last for an hour.

Over the course of ten days and nine nights, the story unfolds with Philip stranded on a secluded, inhabited island situated off the shores of Madagascar.

Spectators can expect the former host to share thoughts about the emotional consequences he faced following his dismissal from prime-time broadcasting, after it was revealed that he had an affair with a 20-year-old runner on “This Morning.

Before embarking on his emotional journey lasting over a week and a half, Schofield was equipped with a handheld camera, body cameras, and an audio recording device for documentation purposes.

The return of the TV show has sparked widespread criticism from the audience, as one person put it: “If the intention is to evoke sympathy, it’s likely to blow up in their faces. The public was beginning to move on, but this seems to be stirring up old wounds.

One said: ‘There’s shameless. Totally shameless,’ while another added: ‘How tke [sic] f*** is Phillip Schofield getting a tv show? This is a disgrace.’

Scott Bryan commented, “I was quite taken aback by the Phillip Schofield show, but then I recalled that it’s Channel 5, so it wasn’t really unexpected.

TalkTV host Renée Hoenderkamp labeled the celebrity as a ‘self-centered individual’, stating that she feels he shouldn’t receive additional television exposure. She expressed: “Isn’t this an opportunity for a self-absorbed person to simply have more solo screen time? I don’t care about his backstory, I’m not drawn to it.

In an interview about the series, Phil expressed that it’s something completely new for him and was the one thing he couldn’t help but undertake.

“On numerous aspects, it resonated deeply with me. Lately, I’ve found myself reflecting profoundly on my life, examining both its triumphs and missteps. Yet, throughout this introspection, I’ve been comforted by the constant embrace of friends and family.

On this adventure, I’ll be traveling solo without a phone, luxuries, or companionship beyond a tube of lip balm. I’m eagerly anticipating exploring the island, learning to tie knots for my shelter, gathering food resources, and surviving on my own – all without any assistance.

‘Maybe I’ll be Robinson Crusoe, or maybe I’ll just be Tom Hank’s Wilson and quietly drift off into the wild blue yonder!!’

For a fortnight, I found myself marooned on this island paradise, with nothing but my thoughts and the vast expanse of ocean as company. Just beyond the horizon, a team of dedicated souls stood vigil, their presence a comforting assurance should any catastrophe arise. Yet, for the most part, they allowed me to revel in my solitude, undisturbed by human intervention – a true fan’s dream.

Phillip’s mental health and physical safety were monitored as the experience progressed.
