PGL plans return to Kraków for CS2 tournament in 2027

PGL returns to Poland nearly a decade after Gambit’s Major victory.

For approximately ten years, the Polish city of Kraków has been a bystander as premier CS2 tournaments unfolded in its sister city Katowice. However, after hosting the PGL Kraków Major several years ago, the same tournament organizer is now preparing to come back to the TAURON Arena once more.

According to the tournament scheduling rules set by Valve, PGL has revealed their initial event for the year 2027 will take place in Kraków, Poland. However, this event coincides with another event scheduled for the same week.

A PGL return over a decade in the making

In a press release on February 11th, PGL revealed that the 2027 tournament circuit will commence with the PGL Kraków event. This event is scheduled to take place from January 13th through January 25th, marking 3,461 days since Gambit Esports triumphantly won the Major trophy in a crowded TAURON Arena against the Brazilian team Immortals.

Since the residents of Kraków last saw top-tier Counter-Strike gaming, it’s been a while. However, PGL is making a big deal out of it due to its significant status. In other words, PGL Major Kraków 2017 was a historic event for us and the esports community, as Silviu Stroie, CEO of PGL, expressed, stating his eagerness to continue this tradition.

Originally, PGL intended to host its inaugural event of 2027 in early February, but they’ve decided to bring it forward to shortly after the player break. As a result, it seems that PGL will kick off the 2027 competitive season for CS2 in Kraków.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m eagerly looking forward to the next big event that’s currently being planned for mid-March, but unfortunately, the location remains a secret for now. The organizers have already secured events in Astana, Belgrade, and Bucharest over the next two years, so I can hardly wait to see where they decide to take us next!

2027 is shaping up to be a busy beginning, as big organizers like ESL, BLAST, and FISSURE have events lined up for the start of the year. Notably, BLAST’s initial Bounty event of 2027 will coincide with PGL Kraków, causing teams to face a tough decision about which event to participate in.
