Peter Kay’s Hilarious Comeback: A Glimpse Behind the Scenes at O2 Arena!

Peter Kay showed his lighter side as he was seen leaving rehearsals for his tour.

As I sauntered towards my bus following a productive rehearsal of my return performance at the O2 Arena in vibrant London, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of contentment and readiness wash over me. The comedian, aged 51, that was me.

Instead of choosing a smart black jacket and jeans, Peter decided on a sleek black jacket and denim pants, completing the look with a black hat, as he left the arena following rehearsals for his monthly gig at the trendy London venue.

Peter is now the initial artist globally to secure a regular studio space at the North Greenwich arena in southeast London, with performances scheduled there through July 2025.

The star embarked on his tour for the first time in 2022, having stepped away from the limelight for five years because of some unexpected personal issues within his family.

Despite not revealing the reason for his prolonged absence from the stage, Peter’s joyful comeback after 12 years has led him to humorously discuss a health crisis and share details about the passing of a loved one.

Discussing his health during the initial performance of his tour in 2022, Kay recounted the unpleasantness of a recent kidney stone surgery – an ordeal that became even more frustrating when an anesthesiologist requested a selfie from him.

During the performance, men in the crowd found themselves simultaneously roaring with laughter and cringing, a unique reaction. This event may have come the closest to offering some insight into why Kay has been absent from the spotlight for so long.

Fans were taken aback when they saw a seldom-seen picture of Peter from last May, where he was performing his stand-up act.

And the comic said: ‘See how much weight Peter Kay has lost.’

Prior to unveiling his upcoming tour, Peter took a break from public appearances, and only re-emerged into the spotlight with an announcement in December 2017.

During this period, there were numerous theories circulating among fans as to why he was absent, and his social media platforms remained quiet until March 2018. However, in March 2018, he reappeared on these platforms to announce a charity screening of Peter Kay’s Car Share.

As an ardent admirer, I couldn’t help but be part of the extraordinary event that was organized to support The Lily Foundation – an organization close to my heart because it aids children battling mitochondrial disease. In a heartfelt post on my blog, I shared my personal journey and the incredible work this charity does up close.

In the spirit of sharing personal insights, I took a sabbatical from the public eye for an entire year, choosing the picturesque countryside of Tipperary, Ireland as my sanctuary. While there, I found myself intentionally blending with the local community, preferring a low-key existence over the limelight.

In my experience, during that period, I, much like Peter, found myself cherishing the tranquility of anonymity. I took great care to minimize any personal spotlight while residing here, ensuring my actions didn’t draw unnecessary attention.

He seldom visited the local taverns or eateries, appearing solitary most of the time, with few encounters beyond fleeting glimpses as he moved along.

The local resident noted that despite Peter’s efforts to remain discreet, his high-end Range Rover ended up revealing his presence.

Back in November 2017, during an appearance on The Late Late Show, Peter mentioned his second property in Ireland in passing and explained, “I prefer not to discuss it as I don’t want it to be targeted by thieves. We’ve owned a home here for about twelve years now.

“We visit this place quite frequently, particularly during school breaks. In fact, we usually skip Christmas due to our home feeling cold and taking a long time to heat up.

At the National Television Awards in 2019, Peter Kay’s Car Share won the Best Comedy award, but due to his absence at the event, it was Sian Gibson who picked up the award for them both instead.

After presenting the award to Sian, Peter’s ex-co-star from Phoenix Nights, Paddy McGuinness quipped playfully, “Where is he? Where is he?”, which led Sian to reply that he was enjoying it at home with a cup of tea.

Sian subtly suggested they had plans for additional collaborations with Peter following the conclusion of Car Share in 2018.

Back in April 2019, after being absent for several months, Peter unexpectedly showed up at a charity screening of Car Share at the Blackpool Opera House. This event managed to collect an impressive £34,000 for The Lily Foundation.

During his visit to the seaside town, Peter took a photo with fans who were enjoying a ride on the coastal tram as well.

That particular December, Peter was present at the local production of Peter Pan in Crewe as well as the show “Nativity! The Musical” in London. He even had a photo taken with the director, Debbie Isitt.

She expressed her delight on social media about watching the hilarious comedian Peter Kay and his family in ‘Nativity! The Musical’ last night, stating it was an unexpected treat for everyone involved.

In February 2020, Peter revealed plans for a comeback with six Dance For Life performances, however, these events had to be delayed because of the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

comedian briefly came back on television in April 2020 during BBC’s Big Night In Special, featuring an updated rendition of his famous music video titled “(Is This The Path To) Amarillo.

After that, he proceeded to give two packed performances at the Dance For Life concerts, aiming to collect funds for Laura Nuttall, a 21-year-old who was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, a particularly aggressive form of brain cancer. Tragically, she passed away in May 2023.

In November 2022, Peter made everyone happy when he declared his comeback to performing after an absence of 12 years. This return included a monthly stint at London’s O2 Arena.

On his debut performance in Manchester, Peter was deeply emotional as he was greeted with a prolonged standing ovation from the audience which continued for several minutes.

After being taken aback by the response, Peter addressed the audience saying, “Goodness gracious, what’s going on here? How on earth am I expected to perform humor now?

‘Lovely Manchester you made me cry… where did it come from, all that emotion?’
