Peter Kay has spoken publicly for the first time about his significant weight loss, revealing he’s struggled with binge eating for years and has tried many different approaches to manage it.
The 52-year-old comedian made a comeback last year after a five-year break, and fans were surprised to see his noticeably slimmer appearance.
The comedian recently opened up about his weight loss journey, explaining he’d tried various methods – including weight loss groups, hitting the gym, and even following his mother’s exercise videos – in an effort to get in shape.
Peter explained at a recent event with Sara Cox at The Lowry in Salford that he decided to make a change because he was worried about his health.
I really did try every diet I could find. I even went to weight-loss groups like Slimming World and WeightWatchers, but nothing seemed to work.
He recalled the specific instance that helped him understand he had a problem with binge eating: secretly leaving a movie theater while with his wife, Susan.

Peter admitted he’d made up an excuse about needing the restroom just to sneak out and get a hotdog. He explained he was trying to stick to a diet but doesn’t have much willpower. To make things even funnier, he saw his reflection in a poster for the movie ‘Babe’ while he was leaving.
I was shocked and thought, ‘You’re doing so great with your diet, it’s almost frustrating!’ It felt wrong to be upset about someone else’s success.
He mentioned that after tossing it in the trash, he quickly snatched it back before it fell into the bag and ended up eating it anyway.
Peter explained his unhealthy eating started in childhood, when his mother used to bring him pies to school.
Peter surprised Cat Deeley last week by pointing out something she often does during interviews, all while they were live on This Morning – and viewers loved it!
The presenter, who works with Ben Shephard on ITV’s daytime show, chatted with the comedian about his tour, called Better Late Than Never.
Peter explained his choice to give all the proceeds from his tour to various cancer charities while chatting with Cat, 49, and Ben, 50.
He shared the names of all twelve charities that will receive funds from the tour, which began in 2022 and has since added more dates due to its success.

The list of charities included organizations supporting those affected by various cancers, such as Teenage Cancer Trust, Kidney Cancer UK, Blood Cancer UK, Bowel Cancer UK, and Prostate Cancer UK.
The comedian was reading names from a list to remember them, and he laughed when he realized Cat was simply saying ‘yes’ to each one as he announced the charities.
He explained to the hosts that his tour has been going on for a long time. He’s added extra shows, and all the proceeds will be donated to twelve different charities, including Children with Cancer UK, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Kidney Cancer UK, and Blood Cancer UK, as well as a charity supporting those with bowel cancer…
‘I’m not laughing at bowel cancer, it’s because she keeps saying, “yeah”.’
Cat looked flustered and started to laugh, hiding her face. Ben jumped in, saying, ‘It’s called active listening – my wife does it, and it really annoys me!’
Looking into the camera, Peter playfully said, ‘If anyone has a problem with that and wants to get in touch…’ before moving on to read the names of the charities.
Viewers quickly turned to X, previously known as Twitter, to share their reactions, with many praising a guest for finally confronting Cat about their actions.
Someone finally pointed out something funny: Peter Kay playfully called out Cat Deeley for her habit of using filler words like ‘yep,’ ‘yeah,’ ‘aha,’ and ‘um’ while others are speaking!
Someone else commented, ‘It’s good Peter Kay finally told Cat to stop interjecting with constant ‘yeahs’ and ‘uh huhs.’ It was about time!’
