As a lifelong gamer who has traversed the digital landscapes of countless worlds, from the gritty streets of Liberty City to the fantastical realms of Tamriel, I eagerly anticipate the gaming delights that 2025 promises to bring. The prospect of Grand Theft Auto VI, a game reportedly made with a budget of $2 billion, has my heart racing with excitement. But as much as I enjoy a good dose of larcenous mayhem, it’s the lesser-known titles that truly pique my curiosity.

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, due out on January 31, is a game that captivated me with its evocative prose and dice rolls in its original release. I can hardly wait to see what more it offers this time around. The season of history nerds is upon us too, with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (February 4) providing an absurdly detailed recreation of 15th-century Bohemia for me to roam and rage in.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows (February 14), taking the venerable series to feudal Japan, is a tantalizing prospect, as is Civilization VII (February 11), which promises to be a real historical nerdfest with its new features and beautiful graphics.

Looking further ahead, it seems that the British are coming, with Atomfall (March 27) and Fable (later in 2025) offering delightfully Blighty-fied versions of popular fantasies: the post-nuclear wasteland and medieval romance, respectively.

So, my fellow gamers, let us exercise our thumbs, immerse ourselves in these digital worlds, and do our countries proud. And remember, as a wise man once said, “Gaming is not a hobby, it’s a way of life… or something like that. I think I read it on the back of a cereal box.

A fun twist on what the gym posters often say is “New Year, New You.” Instead, let’s challenge our thumb muscles and creative minds this year—by immersing ourselves in exciting games!

2025 might very well be an outstanding year for gaming, especially considering that it may mark the debut of the largest video game ever produced.

As a long-time fan of the Grand Theft Auto series, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation as rumors swirl about the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. Having spent countless hours immersed in the criminal underworlds of Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas, I can only imagine what new adventures await me in the latest installment.

With a reported budget of $2 billion, it’s clear that Rockstar Games is pulling out all the stops to create an unparalleled gaming experience. As someone who has witnessed the evolution of this franchise over the years, I have high expectations for what Grand Theft Auto VI will bring to the table.

If the release does indeed come before the end of the year, I’ll be first in line to get my hands on a copy and dive back into the action-packed world of crime and chaos that Grand Theft Auto is known for. Fingers crossed!

If you’d rather avoid games with explicit content, there are numerous other options available that you can look forward to instead.

Commencing with Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector on January 31. The initial Citizen Sleeper was a deeply moving role-playing game that immersed players in a space station, delving into what it signifies to be partially human and robot, using words and dice throws. This sequel appears to provide more than just a continuation of the same experience.

For those who love delving into the past, it’s now the perfect time! If its predecessor is any indication, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (set for release on February 4) offers a chance to explore (and perhaps vent some frustration) in a meticulously crafted replica of 15th-century Bohemia.

In a departure from its usual settings, Assassin’s Creed Shadows (February 14) is set in ancient Japan for the first time, marking a new era for this esteemed series.

In essence, the upcoming game “Civilization VII” on February 11 promises an academic yet thrilling exploration of history. With its expansive timeline and strategic gameplay, it’s more visually appealing than ever. Not only does it boast a stunning upgrade in graphics, but it might also offer improved gameplay due to innovative new features like civilizations being associated with specific eras.

In the future, it seems that we will encounter British interpretations of well-known genres such as post-apocalyptic landscapes (Atomfall on March 27) and medieval love stories (Fable, expected later in 2025). These adaptations promise to have a charmingly British feel.

So what are you waiting for? Start exercising those thumbs — and do your country proud.
