Two months after he was discovered deceased in his New York City apartment, authorities have determined that Peter Greene’s death was the result of an accident.
On December 12th, 60-year-old Greene was discovered dead in his New York City apartment, located in the Lower East Side. He had visible injuries.
I was so saddened to hear about the details surrounding Michael Greene’s death. The Chief Medical Examiner in New York confirmed to the Daily Mail that he died from a gunshot wound to his left underarm, which severely damaged a major artery.
What may be even more perplexing is that the manner of death was deemed an ‘accident.’
Back in December, sources at TMZ reported that Greene sustained some injuries, but the cause of those injuries wasn’t yet known.
I’ve been following this case closely, and right now, the medical examiner is still trying to figure out exactly how and why this person died. It’s just not clear yet if it was a crime, a suicide, an overdose, or something else entirely. We’re all waiting for more information, and it’s frustrating that it’s taking so long to get answers.
I’m hearing that the police actually got involved after neighbors complained about loud music coming from Amber Greene’s apartment – apparently it had been going on for several days. It sounds like things were getting pretty disruptive!
Police visited the apartment to check on Greene’s well-being. After a locksmith opened the door, a neighbor reported finding Greene lying face down on the floor, along with a handwritten note inside the apartment.
A neighbor told the New York Daily News that Peter was found lying face down on the floor, visibly injured and covered in blood.
The note allegedly contained the phrase ‘I’m still a Westie,’ seemingly a nod to an Irish-American gang active in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen since 1970.
Gregg Edwards, who managed actor Anthony Greene for more than a decade, described him as a ‘terrific guy.’ Greene was famous for portraying memorable villains.
He was a truly exceptional actor and a wonderful person. I’m deeply saddened by his loss and will miss him dearly. He was a great friend to many.
He added that he had spoken with Greene earlier this week.
Edwards admitted that although Greene could be challenging to collaborate with, he was a perfectionist dedicated to making every performance feel just right.
Edwards believes Greene’s portrayal of Dorian Tyrell in ‘The Mask,’ alongside Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz, was likely his strongest performance.
‘He fought his demons but overcame them’ he added.
Greene played the role of Zed in Quentin Tarantino’s famous 1994 movie, Pulp Fiction. Zed was a cruel security guard who was also a serial killer.
According to Edwards, Peter was unmatched at playing villains, but he also possessed a kind and compassionate side that few people knew about. He truly had a big heart, Edwards told the New York Daily News.
I’m really excited about this new project! Peter, you might recognize him from The Usual Suspects, is going to be filming an independent thriller called Mascots starting in January, and he’ll be working with Mickey Rourke. It sounds like it’s going to be a great movie!
Gregg told Kerry Mondragón, the writer and director of the film, that the actor had passed away, and Mondragón immediately began to cry.
‘They were very upset,’ he shared.
Greene was also going to be the lead in a crime drama called State of Confusion, which was written and directed by E.B. Hughes.
Filming was scheduled for late fall 2026 in Cape May, New Jersey, and parts of New York.
Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Peter ran away at 15 and lived on the streets of New York City.
He later turned to drug use and eventually dealing, he told Premiere magazine in 1996.
He started acting in his mid-20s and began appearing in movies and TV shows in the early 1990s.
Following a suicide attempt in March 1996, he began receiving treatment for his substance use issues, as detailed in his profile.
In 2007, Peter was arrested for possessing crack cocaine according to the New York Daily News.
Greene appeared in almost 95 films and TV shows throughout his career, including notable roles in ‘Laws of Gravity’ (1992), ‘Clean, Shaven’ (1993), ‘Blue Streak’ (1999), and ‘Training Day’ (2001).
He is survived by a sister and a brother.
