Peter Capaldi explains why being Doctor Who was more fun than being him

As a gamer with a soft spot for sci-fi and a deep love for Doctor Who, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia when reading about Peter Capaldi’s time on the show. Playing the Twelfth Doctor was indeed an incredible experience, much like stepping into a TARDIS and traveling through time and space.

Peter Capaldi has explained why being the Doctor was “much more fun” than being himself.

Between 2014 and 2017, the actor took on the role of the Twelfth Doctor in the BBC series “Doctor Who.” This part was then passed to Jodie Whittaker after that time period.

In a recent conversation with Radio Times, Capaldi reminisced about his time on the show, stating, “It was an absolutely extraordinary journey. All of a sudden, you’re immersed in this magical universe filled with people who are passionate about Doctor Who.

He went on to mention: “I was observing as Tom Baker discussed a topic, and he stated that during his time as Doctor Who, he undertook an enormous amount of public appearances because being Doctor Who offered far more enjoyment than being Tom Baker. In the same vein, I would likely concur – being Doctor Who is infinitely more entertaining than being myself.

Absolutely, you find yourself in a rather unique situation, as you are loved for that particular character. Please remember that this character isn’t me, but it’s a pleasure to be associated with it.

It seems challenging to maintain this permanently, I believe, but it’s wonderful to witness the goodness in people.

To be honest, although I cherish the recollections, Capaldi has made it clear that he’s unlikely to step back into that role again.

He had previously stated to Forbes that he was not considering it. As a long-time fan of Doctor Who since his childhood, perhaps his character Daniel from Criminal Record also enjoyed the show.

He belongs to that time period. It gives me comfort to imagine that my doctor is still somewhere out there. Unfortunately, he can’t appear on television. The genuine doctor you and I know isn’t on TV; he’s out in the world somewhere.

The popular series “Doctor Who” is broadcast on BBC One within the United Kingdom, while it can be found on Disney+ internationally. For those in the UK, classic episodes of “Doctor Who” can be accessed through BBC iPlayer.
