Peter Alexander is leaving NBC News to join MS NOW as an anchor

Peter Alexander, a Washington correspondent for NBC News for over ten years, is moving to MS NOW, sources say.

Alexander, age 49, is joining MS NOW as a lead anchor and national reporter. He’ll host a weekday show and report on important news as it happens.

For 22 years, Alexander worked at NBC News, notably as their chief White House correspondent and a co-host of “Today” on Saturdays alongside Laura Jarrett. He’s a well-known figure to those who cover the White House.

Alexander announced on Saturday’s broadcast that he’s leaving NBC News, but didn’t say where he’s going next. A spokesperson for MS NOW didn’t offer any information when asked.

MS NOW is a cable channel that leans left politically. It used to be called MSNBC, but the name was changed when it became an independent company called Versant, separating from Comcast.

Following the division, MS NOW stopped working with NBC News. Those who reported for both MS NOW and NBC News had to decide where they would continue their careers.

Journalists Jacob Soboroff and Ken Dilanian have moved from NBC News to MS NOW. However, Steve Kornacki, known for his data analysis, is staying with NBC News, as he also works for NBC Sports. Willie Geist, who co-hosts “Morning Joe” on MS NOW, is a unique case – he continues to host “Sunday Today” on NBC.

Alexander is the first NBC news reporter to join MS NOW after the two organizations separated. His agreement with Versant also allows him to report on sports for their other cable channels, USA Network and the Golf Channel.

Alexander will now host the 11 a.m. Eastern hour on MSNBC, taking over for Ana Cabrera, who is departing the network as part of upcoming changes to its daytime lineup in June.

Alexander joined NBC News after serving as an anchor on the network’s Washington station WRC.

He reported from the White House during President Obama’s second term, from 2012 to 2014, and later returned in 2018 to cover the Trump presidency.

Alexander, known for asking tough questions, has been publicly criticized by Trump for questions he didn’t like during press conferences.
