As a dedicated follower of Pete Doherty’s music and personal journey, I can’t help but feel a mix of admiration, concern, and a touch of humor when reading about his life experiences. On one hand, it’s inspiring to see him looking happy and healthy after battling addiction, diabetes, and various other challenges that have tested his resilience.

On Thursday, Pete Doherty appeared cheerful and fit as he displayed his slimmer physique during a grocery shopping trip in Glasgow.

45-year-old lead singer of The Libertines seemed quite jovial as he casually wandered through the city center before his album release event and concert at Glasgow’s Barrowlands.

For the outing, he donned a blue Nike France 2024 Home football jersey, paired it with a sleek black blazer and well-fitted pants.

The singer completed his look with a pair of trainers and a grey fedora hat, as he toted around his shopping in a Tesco bag, with his shopping including dog food for his beloved pooch Gladys.

In February, when Pete admitted he was something of an overeater and mentioned his diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes, it became clear that this condition, characterized by excessive blood sugar levels, had affected him.

This well-known celebrity, who’s currently abstaining from alcohol, has never shied away from discussing his longstanding struggles with substance abuse, specifically crack and heroin.

Despite quitting drugs, Pete confessed that his diet hasn’t been optimal and he tends to consume a significant amount of cheese and sugar.

In an interview with The Guardian’s Saturday Magazine in February, he stated: “I stopped using the major toxins, and my health got better. Later, I learned that alcohol, cheese, and sugar can be just as harmful, making me healthier when I was on heroin.

Pete then went on to call himself ‘a bit of a glutton’.

He clarified, “This isn’t a jest. I’ve been officially diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. At the moment, I’m struggling to maintain the self-control needed to manage my cholesterol levels.

Previously, Pete expressed to documentary-maker Louis Theroux that he considered himself a deeply troubled individual, as featured in the Louis Theroux Interviews series.

Because of his past habits, the musician acknowledged that he doesn’t envision a long lifespan and expressed concern that death might be imminent.

He has been off hard drugs for three years, but said he still drinks and was seen swigging rum and chain smoking in the Theroux interview.

Beyond cherishing every frame of his groundbreaking documentaries, I was captivated by the recent cinematic exploration delving into his personal struggles that unfolded on the big screen last year. In essence, I found myself both a spectator and a subject, deeply engrossed in this intimate portrayal of the legendary filmmaker’s life.

Title “Peter Doherty: Alien in My Very Self” implies the depth of his harrowing drug struggles, his agonizing stage acts during his sickest period, and includes footage of him alongside his companion and love, Amy Winehouse.

The documentary was shot by his wife Katia de Vidas over a decade, and in upsetting scenes he is seen smoking drugs and writhing in the aftermath.

He is also shown tying a tourniquet around his arm just before injecting heroin, before scenes shoot to him shouting at a crowd of adoring fans: ‘On the one hand, thank you, on the other hand… f**k you’.

In other chaotic moments he is also shown setting various things on fire.

In the movie, he mentions: ‘Drugs like hard narcotics found their way into my life. Gradually, then all at once, they seized control over me.’

In the year 2002, at the age of 23, he experimented with heroin for the first time; however, it wasn’t until his return from a trip to Japan, where he felt unwell with symptoms like sweats and illness, that the addiction truly began to grip him.
