Perth’s high society tier list: Ruthless gossips leak the city’s hidden hierarchy in our most cutting social rankings yet – as TWO former A-listers take a tumble down the ranks
It was only a matter of time.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been diving deep into the intriguing storyline of Dr. David Hurst, and let me tell you, it seems Perth’s social circle is brimming with untold tales! From the city’s most chatty insiders, I’ve heard countless whispers about hidden feuds, unreported scandals, and juicy gossip that paints a whole new picture of Perth’s vibrant social scene.
Given that the local media over there shows little interest or curiosity, we’ve decided to serve as the main hub for gossip and news in Western Australia instead.
Due to our reliable connections within the influential circles of Claremont and Cottesloe, we now have access to an exhaustive and accurate list that discloses the current standings of those in power, those being phased out, and those barely hanging on within Perth’s high-profile social scene.
Based on the resounding popularity of our rankings for Melbourne, the Gold Coast, and Sydney’s eastern suburbs, here’s an update for you: The ultimate Perth social stratification guide.
The A-list
Denise Satterley
Denise Satterley, always impeccably dressed, is frequently spotted zooming about town in her stylish black Aston Martin. She’s not only the devoted supporter of various charities but also the wife of real estate mogul, Nigel Satterley AM.
For decades, starting from the 1990s, they’ve collaboratively contributed and sold land to raise substantial sums of money for various charitable organizations.
George and Danielle Kailis
Prominent members of the highly successful Kailis family, well-known for their seafood and pearl business in Western Australia, George and Danielle Kailis prefer to lead a low-key lifestyle, residing with their three offspring and avoiding public attention.
However, he notes they’re quite warm, our secret agent says. And when they step out, without a doubt, they’re the most attractive pair in Perth.
George manages a group of high-end coastal establishments under Kailis Hospitality Group, such as the award-winning Gibney in Cottesloe, along with The Shorehouse in Swanbourne, and Magic Apple Wholefoods.

Meanwhile, Danielle is a former Vogue cover girl and international model.
The Stokes family
Without a shadow of a doubt, the Stokes Family holds the highest position in Perth’s social circle. At the helm is Kerry Stokes, aged 84, who boasts strong connections in Western Australia and is renowned as one of the state’s leading job providers.
Initially, he worked on setting up TV antennas in Perth. During the 1960s and 1970s, however, his focus shifted towards property development. In fact, some shopping centers in the western capital were developed by him along with partners Jack Bendat and Kevin Merifield.
Currently, Kerry is predominantly recognized for his role as the chairman of the expansive Seven West Media conglomerate, encompassing media properties such as Channel Seven and The West Australian. His staggering net worth amounts to approximately $12.69 billion, positioning him among the top ten wealthiest individuals in Australia.
Over the years, my personal life has been a frequent topic in tabloids, with four marriages being a recurring theme. I exchanged vows with Dorothy ‘Dot’ Ebert in 1960 and together we raised two wonderful children, Russell and Raelene. However, it appears that our relationship has evolved into something different now.

In the 1970s, the influential media tycoon tied the knot with his assistant Denise Bryant. Together they had two sons, Ryan and Bryant, before their marriage ended and she relocated abroad. Currently, Ryan is at the forefront of managing his father’s business empire, which was previously known as Seven Group Holdings but now operates under the name SGH.
In 1992, Australian television actress Peta Toppano became the third spouse of an individual known as Kerry. Their marriage endured for only three years before they went their separate ways. Later in 1996, Kerry tied the knot with his fourth wife, Christine Simpson. At the time of their first encounter, she was a newsreader at a competing station to where he was affiliated.
Ginia Rinehart

As a die-hard admirer speaking here, I’d like to highlight the remarkable journey of Ginia Rinehart, at 38 years old, boasting an impressive net worth of $2.1 billion. Bucking the trend and defying expectations, she has successfully stepped out from under the towering shadow cast by her mining tycoon mother, Gina. Despite being the youngest among four siblings, Ginia has proven that age and birth order mean little when one is determined to make a mark in this world.
She holds a business degree from London University, specializing in Spanish, and has chosen to keep out of the contentious legal dispute between herself and her family members.
Bianca, John, and Hope are trying to gain authority over the Hancock trust set up by Lang Hancock, which was originally controlled by their mother.
Ginia and her entire family were listed as the recipients of the trust, which holds a significant portion of shares in the mining conglomerate, Hancock Prospecting.
Ever since that devastating family rift occurred, I’ve found myself estranged from Bianca and Hope, two individuals who were once dear to me. Regrettably, my beloved John hasn’t received a single penny from the trust due to this unfortunate turn of events.
Ginia, who supports her mother’s stance, expressed that it’s extremely uncomfortable for our family dispute to be aired out so openly in the Supreme Court.
‘My loving and hard-working mother has only ever wanted the best for her children.’
Ginia is married to Simon Robinson. They wed in the Whitsundays in 2016.
Rose Porteous
76-year-old Rose Porteous is an unexpected yet compelling figure among the elite, given her intriguing connection to Lang Hancock, making it impossible to ignore her inclusion.
A Filipino-born society figure gained notoriety primarily for her unconventional union with the deceased iron ore tycoon, as well as her court case with his daughter Gina following his demise.
Born to Nicolas and Amparo Lacson, Rose is a granddaughter of the renowned Filipino revolutionary and sugar magnate, General Aniceto Lacson.
A unique fact about her family is that her uncle, Arsenio Lacson, served as the initially elected mayor of Manila. Meanwhile, her sibling, Salvador Lacson, occupies the position of chairman at Lacson & Lacson Insurance Brokers Inc.
Back in 1983, I embarked on an adventure Down Under, securing a temporary work visa that led me to Australia. Upon arrival, I found myself employed as a housekeeper for Mr. Lang, a man three decades my senior, who had recently lost his spouse.
In 1985, the couple swiftly developed a romantic relationship and exchanged vows in Sydney. However, Gina, Lang’s daughter, chose not to be present at their wedding.
In 1992, following Lang’s passing, Gina initiated a legal dispute with Rose regarding the circumstances surrounding his death and the division of his $400 million estate. The case was finally resolved in 2003 when a coroner’s investigation concluded that Lang had died naturally.
Yet, further legal troubles arose for Rose in 2005 when she was taken to court by the law firm Slater & Gordon, based in Melbourne.
Due to Rose’s dispute with Gina, the company pursued an outstanding debt of up to 14 million dollars in unpaid legal fees. In the end, the high-profile individual consented to repay the law firm a total of 13.25 million dollars.
Cat Linney

Cat Linney, known as the “it” girl of Perth, is married to Justin Linney, who heads the creative department at his relatives’ jewelry production company.
At a gathering hosted by common acquaintances, the pair initially crossed paths, and over the span of a year, they encountered each other frequently at different social functions. Eventually, Justin extended an invitation for a date to Cottesloe Beach.
Almost seven years later, he popped the question while on a road trip to Broome.
They later flew to Noosa on the Sunshine Coast to get married.
Back in 1972, the Linney family launched their very own jewelry brand. Their design studio, fully equipped, is nestled in the heart of Perth’s western inner region, specifically in Subiaco.
In terms of their roles, Justin, who’s Alan Linney’s son, takes care of the creative aspects, whereas Troy, Justin’s brother, manages the business operations.
Melissa Karlson
46-year-old Melissa Karlson serves as the director for the Perth-based investment firm, Wyllie Group, earning her the nickname “the Queen of Socialites” in Western Australia (WA).
Recently, she caught the attention of many when she celebrated her birthday with grand style at her mother Rhonda’s residence, situated in Mosman Park.
Jamie Karlson, the founder of Be Giving charity, along with her husband who runs a fashion wholesale business, renovated their large estate into what is now known as ‘Hotel Wyllie.’ This luxurious hotel features amenities such as a bellhop and Louis Vuitton luggage.
At the event, it was also present Samantha Wyllie, who is married to Luke (Melissa’s brother), and who happens to be the owner of Corsaire Aviation.
At the exclusive event, there were also Dr. Lucy Caratti, Poppy Lissiman along with her spouse, Harrison Kennedy.
Melissa is renowned for hosting opulent events attended by Australia’s affluent elite, often inviting figures such as Julie Bishop and Kate Walsh to attend.
Rhonda Wyllie

In the social world, Melissa is like a graceful swan, while her mother Rhonda Wyllie is revered as the ‘monarch’ or ‘queen’ of the social pages.
After the prolonged battle with cancer that claimed Bill Wyllie’s life in 2006 at age 73, Rhonda inherited a significant controlling interest in his expansive business empire upon his passing.
In my expert opinion, I’d highly recommend exploring the vibrant Sorrento Quay Boardwalk, the bustling Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, and the impressive St Georges Square office tower during your visit. These landmarks truly embody the essence of Perth’s dynamic lifestyle.
1988 saw me tying the knot, a blissful union indeed! My beloved wife Rhonda brought along her beautiful children, Luke and Melissa, and together we embraced the Wyllie family name, making our bond official and complete.
Bill also had three children, Craig, Stephen and Suzanne, from his first marriage.
In the year 2018, following his demise, Rhonda tied the knot with Jeff Browne, a previous executive at the Nine Network. Their encounter took place at the 2013 Logie Awards during a blind date.
Since then, they’ve gone their separate ways; Jeff returned to Melbourne at the start of 2021, whereas Rhonda remained in Perth.
Poppy Lissiman

In 2008, Poppy Lissiman, who was then 37 years old, introduced her fashion brand bearing her name, specializing in ready-to-wear clothing. However, she reintroduced the label in 2014, shifting its focus towards accessories.
Initially, she introduced a series of handbags, followed by a range of sunglasses after a year. Notably, these items have been spotted on celebrities such as Justin Bieber and Gigi Hadid.
Poppy is wedded to marketing expert, Harrison Kennedy. Among their friends, they’re affectionately referred to as ‘Poppy and Harro.’
The B-list
Amy Zempilas
Amy Zempilas (née Graham) is the wife of sports journalist-turned-politician Basil Zempilas.
The couple married in 2009 and share three children, Ava, Chloe and Anthony.
Amy, with a bit of a reputation for being influential, presents herself on Instagram as a mom to three kids and a devoted dog owner. Her interests span Pilates, yoga, and enjoying a good cup of coffee.
Sounds breezy!

‘Life is short, make it beautiful!’ is her life motto, per her social media bio.
She is the proud creator of AnotherLove, a second-hand luxury goods online retailer.
In 2020, her husband was chosen as the Lord Mayor of Perth, a position he held until 2025 when he stepped down to assume the role of representative for Churchlands and head of the Western Australian Liberal Party.
In my previous life, I was the sportscaster for Seven News Perth, gracing the airwaves up until 2022. Later, in the year 2018, I transitioned into a new role and began co-hosting Weekend Sunrise.
After his football career, during which he scored 25 goals for West Perth from 1990 to 1994, an injury forced him to retire from the field and instead embark on a television career.
Chloe Poliwka

Chloe Poliwka, aged 34, is well-known in the racing world for her fashionable flair and joint ownership of a racehorse through a female-led partnership.
She got married to Brent Latch, a professional WAFL (Western Australian Football League) player. It’s said that they exchanged vows in the year 2021, and together they have two boys as their offspring.
The socialite also works as a sales executive at First Western Realty in Joondalup.
The likes of Nadia Bartel and Pip Edwards can be found among her Instagram followers.
Em Davies
In Perth, where influencers are fewer compared to Melbourne and Sydney, one could say that Em Davies stands out as a notable figure, like the largest fish in a smaller body of water.

‘She really is the biggest influencer we have here,’ says our spy.
The 30-year-old model-cum-businesswoman, who boasts a devoted social media audience and frequently partners with leading brands, has just embarked on a new journey as a mother. She welcomed her daughter Isla Sue into the world with her partner Joel Gambin.
Di Bain
In the election for Lord Mayor of Perth held in 2020, Di Bain faced off directly against Basil. Regrettably, Di Bain lost the race by a mere 284 votes.
Her political endeavor faced a barrage of unfavorable news stories following her revelation about the luxurious presents and contributions she accepted from affluent and influential associates during her candidacy.
According to The Age, Di garnered close to $100,000 from prominent Australian figures, whereas Basil revealed earnings of just $1,800 from a sole contributor.
Among those supporting her were Mathias Cormann, who was finance minister at the time, and John Quigley, a former Attorney-General from Western Australia.
Previously, Dean Nadler, who served as a shadow treasurer, and Julie Bishop, formerly the minister for foreign affairs, expressed their backing for Di.
After my recent electoral defeat, I find myself stepping into the role of Chair for Tourism Western Australia. With over two decades under my belt in the fields of marketing and communications, I’m excited to bring my expertise to this new challenge and help promote the beauty and wonders that Western Australia has to offer.
After a ten-year stint at ABC, Di established Bain Media, her own media and marketing firm.
Currently, she holds positions on multiple advisory groups such as the Telethon Kids Institute, the Curtin University MBA Advisory Council, and the Perth Zoo’s Fundraising Panel.
Apart from her role as a member of the Philanthropy Advisory Board for the Black Swan State Theatre Company, Di enjoys flying planes during her free hours.
Rachel Beazley

Rachel Beazley, the daughter of career politician Kim Beazley, is notoriously private.
Kim served as the leader of the Labor Party from 1996 to 2001, and then held the position of opposition leader from 2005 to 2006.
He served as Deputy Prime Minister under the administration of Paul Keating for a full year, and from 2010 through 2016, he held the position of Australia’s ambassador to the United States.
Rachel, 33, is one of three daughters, her half-sisters being Jessica and Labor member Hannah.
Jessica and Hannah are daughters from Kim’s initial union with Mary Ciccarelli, a marriage that spanned from 1974 to 1988. On the other hand, Rachel’s mother is Susie Annus, whom Kim wedded in 1990.
Rachel keeps her Instagram page private, preferring to stay out of the public eye.
However, it appears she has a sociable nature, yet maintains discretion, as evidenced by her photos with Married at First Sight’s Lauren Dunn and publicist Gemma Oldfield.
She is followed on social media by individuals such as Simone Holtznagel and Holly Kaiser, who is the head of PR at Merivale, indicating that she likely has connections with influential people.
Rachel now lives in the UK and only recently tied the knot.
Melanie Perkins
Melanie Perkins, ranked among the top five wealthiest women in Australia, serves as a co-founder for the user-friendly graphic design platform, Canva, currently estimated to be worth an impressive $48.7 billion.
In 2013, the 38-year-old founded the company alongside her husband Cliff Obrecht (aged 39) following their modest start which involved them peddling temporary tattoo art at a fair in Perth.
In 2022, the pair decided to join Bill Gates’ Giving Pledge, promising to donate a significant portion of their wealth to philanthropic endeavors throughout their lives.
During a vacation in Turkey, Cliff put forth the question of marriage to Melanie, presenting her with a modest $30 engagement ring. The couple tied the knot on Rottnest Island in January 2021.
Originating from Perth, this pair is thought to reside in a humble townhouse in Surry Hills, which they bought for approximately $1.7 million, serving as their hub in Sydney.
Samantha Wynne
Samantha Wynne, with her 30 years of experience in the industry, is widely recognized as the preferred bridal designer among the wealthy communities in the western suburbs of Perth.

She previously owned a shop in Mount Hawthorn, but that has since closed down.
Samantha now runs her eponymous bridal store entirely online.
Emma Milner

Emma Milner is well-known in the upscale neighborhoods of Dalkeith and Claremont, primarily due to her position as a sales executive at Ray White.
She shares sons Nelson and Leo with her husband of 15 years, Peter.
Beyond excelling as a top-tier real estate agent, she also holds a significant role in charitable organizations, serving as an ambassador for Cancer Council Western Australia and Youth Lab Australia.
Phyllis Narula

Phyllis Narula, an entrepreneur and socialite, is a big name in Perth.
She is the mastermind of the $40 million childcare enterprise Little People’s Place, and she has been recognized as Telstra’s Businesswoman of the Year in Western Australia.
Phyllis, along with her spouse and business associate Vijay Narula, enjoy an extravagant life filled with opulent amenities such as a beachside residence and an array of lavish vehicles.
She is particularly recognized in Western Australia, but also boasts notable ties in Sydney, even mingling with prominent public relations figure Roxy Jacenko on occasion.
Joanna Millard

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but gush about Joanna Millard – a woman who embodies passion and dedication to the automotive world, much like her illustrious father, John Hughes. Once known merely as an heiress to a car dealership, she’s now stepping boldly into the limelight, actively contributing to the company that bears the Hughes name.
In 2018, she was designated as a member of the board for Rohanna Pty Ltd, a corporate entity of the business, by her father. Currently, she serves as an executive director at John Hughes Group.
Jarred and Meagan Briotti

As a devoted admirer and follower, I proudly associate myself with the esteemed figure, Jarred Briotti – the visionary behind Suit Vault. Known throughout Perth’s thriving sports community, he is the tailor who graces our local sporting elites with his exceptional craftsmanship.
His achievements in the tuxedo rental industry have given him the somewhat ordinary moniker, “King of Suits.
In the year 2021, Jarred exchanged wedding vows with his beloved Meagan at a high-profile event held in Margaret River. The guest list featured an impressive gathering of well-known West Australian AFL athletes.
The C-list
Clara Hurst
Beauty expert Clara Hurst was formerly recognized as a prominent figure within the Claremont group; however, nowadays, she is more often associated with her late husband’s financial indiscretions, which have relegated her to the C-list.
She is the widow of the late Dr. David Hurst, the disreputable dentist who passed away in December. His death followed his embezzlement of $7.1 million from his dental practice in Perth, leading to a series of creditors and patients with unfinished or flawed dental work.
Clara has taken over managing her husband’s assets, and only after receiving the financial records did she understand the full scale of his fraudulent activities; it turned out that his business was financially bankrupt.
She’s certainly under pressure, there’s no denying that, maybe this is why she chose to step away for a while. Her escape? A six-week trip to Europe with her kids, Sienna, age 11, and Will, aged 7.

Clara serves as the mastermind for the high-end salon Blanc situated in Cottesloe, and she is also one of the founding partners of the digital skincare prescription service, The Secret.
I’ve picked up some rumors suggesting a split between The Secret and Clara, which seems to have led to a silence in their communication with Dr. Deb Cohen-Jones as her business partner.
Natasha Marshall-Donnelly
Natasha Marshall-Donnelly, once a prominent figure in Perth’s social circle, has experienced a shift in her status following a series of business challenges.
For a long time, Natasha, being married to the former West Coast Eagle Andrew Donnelly and being the daughter of WA football legend Denis Marshall, has been known as the epitome of football nobility.
However, because several businesses jointly owned by the Donnelly family were liquidated during bankruptcy proceedings, they received unfavorable media coverage.
Our society spy remarks that Natasha’s mom, Wendy Marshall, has owned and operated the high-end Elle boutique exclusively since 1969, and she’s been the go-to fashion stylist for all the well-dressed ladies in town.
Holly Garvey

Another Perth entrepreneur, Holly Garvey is the founder of her popular eponymous beauty business.
The 33-year-old’s business philosophy is that her customers will have a significant impact, entering at level 7 and leaving behind a noticeable improvement of level 11 – certainly a confident declaration.
Martine Chippendale

42-year-old Martine Chippendale found the social scene in Perth limiting, prompting her to depart Western Australia and seek out the vibrant atmosphere of New York City (often referred to as the “Emerald City”).
Currently, she shines as a prominent figure on the Real Housewives of Sydney. Alongside her partner, a retired banker known as John, she is nurturing two budding kids in the neighborhood of Darling Point.
Having left Perth behind, the best she can hope for is C-list.
Bernadette Bosanac

Bernadette Bosanac is a well-known figure in the local media scene, and her podcast, “The Buzz with Bernadette,” is highly regarded by influential individuals within Perth.
In the year 2022, I found myself standing up against the ATO in a legal battle. You see, the tax collector had attempted, unsuccessfully, to settle my ex-spouse’s tax liabilities using my $4.5 million property.
Karolina Borkovic

Karolina Borkovic gained national recognition when she appeared as a ‘villain’ competitor on the Seven cooking show, My Kitchen Rules, back in 2019.
On the program, she was introduced as a “socialite from Perth,” but it seems that title might have been a bit generous by the producers. However, she certainly lived up to the expectations of providing an abundance of excitement.
Footy players and WAGs
Ben Cousins
It’s no exaggeration to state that Ben Cousins, the standout player from the West Coast and Richmond, has faced significant challenges throughout his life.
Conquering the destructive struggles with substance abuse that haunted me since my teenage years, I’ve managed to transform myself at the age of 46. Leaving behind the infamy, I’ve gracefully stepped into Perth’s vibrant social world, marking a new beginning for this once troubled soul.

Currently, a frequent attendee of social gatherings – opting for a beverage without alcohol – he simultaneously earns his income honestly, working as a sports presenter on Seven and at LiSTNR.
2024 saw me, Ben, displaying my indomitable spirit on the dance floor of “Dancing with the Stars.” I danced my way through multiple rounds, ultimately reaching the semifinals before gracefully bowing out of the competition.
Harley Reid

Harley Reid, 20, plays for West Coast Eagles.
In the previous year, he stepped onto the red carpet for the first time alongside his AFLW partner, Yasmin Duursma from Carlton, solidifying their status as a formidable duo in the world of football.
Nic Naitanui

Nic Naitanui, 35, also of the Eagles, proposed to his fiancé Brittany Bown in 2022.
In the year of 20XX, I was fortunate enough to become a parent for the very first time, welcoming a precious baby boy into our family. We named him Ezekiel, and the joy he brought us was immeasurable. Fast forward to the year 2023, we were blessed again with the arrival of another little miracle – this time a daughter whom we named Zuri Ateca. The love and happiness they’ve added to our lives is truly indescribable.
Nat Fyfe
Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe, 33, boasts two Brownlow Medals for his stellar footy career.
In the thrilling world of cricket, I found myself utterly smitten by none other than the legendary Ellyse Perry. It was during the Women’s Big Bash League in 2021 that our paths crossed, and from that moment on, I couldn’t tear my eyes away. The enchantment was instant, and before I knew it, we were spending a glorious year together!
Honourable mentions
Laurence Escalante

Laurence Escalante, aged 42, is primarily recognized for his role as the flamboyant creator and head of Virtual Gaming Worlds, a multibillion-dollar online gaming enterprise estimated to be worth approximately $3.2 billion.
As a devoted adherent, I’m proud to be part of a dynamic organization that manages exceptional brands like Chumba Casino, Luckyland Slots, and Global Poker. Notably, our popularity soars high within the United States market.
He has four kids with his ex-wife Sarita Escalante; they divorced in 2018, and since then, he has been associated with multiple other women.
Laurence often leaves potential partners in awe by displaying his collection of high-end automobiles, boats, and motorcycles.
The Ledger family

In Western Australian society, the family of the late Australian actor Heath Ledger continues to occupy a prominent and respected position.
In simple terms, after the passing of their son Heath, Sally Ramshaw and Kim Ledger, who divorced when Heath was 11 years old, now lead tranquil lives in the city of Perth. Their older daughter, Kate, also resides there.
In the years spanning 2022 to 2024, Rorie Buckey, Heath’s niece, experienced a brief taste of global notoriety due to her relationship with Robert Irwin, son of the late Steve Irwin.
Sophia Forrest
Thirty-year-old Sophia Forrest is the child born to Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest, a wealthy businessman known for his ventures in mining and cattle stations with an estimated net worth of 22 billion dollars, and his ex-spouse Nicola.
In the year 2023, Twiggy and Nicola, a former couple, are parents to Sophia, Grace, and Sydney – their three lovely daughters. It seems that these girls will not receive their father’s wealth as inheritance.
Sophia has completely disengaged from the family enterprise, fully immersing herself instead in her ardor for acting and activism.

In the television series “Love Child,” she portrayed the character Debbie Hampshire. Her impressive acting skills earned her a nomination for Best New Talent at the Logies in 2018.
In 2022, she portrayed Dani in the TV series Barons, and more recently, she appeared on stage as Tessa Ensler in Prima Facie, produced by Perth’s Black Swan State Theatre Company.
During her free moments, she champions for a shift in the consent laws across Western Australia and actively supports Equality Australia as an advocate for equality.
In 2022, Sophia became engaged to her partner Zara Zoe, and they eventually got married in August 2024 at the Minderoo station owned by the Forrest family in Pilbara.
