Perrie Edwards reveals her partner Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was ‘traumatised’ after she lost her baby at 22 weeks as she admits he felt ‘a lack of control’ following the loss

Perrie Edwards shared that her fiancé, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, was deeply affected when she suffered a miscarriage at 22 weeks of pregnancy.

Perrie Edwards, 32, recently shared that she experienced a devastating loss after giving birth to her son, Axel. She announced the news last month and is currently expecting her second child.

Perrie shared that losing her baby was incredibly painful for her, and it also deeply affected her partner, Alex. She explained that he felt helpless and unable to fix the situation while trying to be there for her.

Perrie shared that she felt incredibly fortunate to have Alex supporting her through a difficult time, explaining that he was dedicated to being strong for her.

Oh my gosh, I’m still so happy thinking about it! Perrie and Alex finally got engaged in 2022 – after FIVE amazing years together! And then, the absolute sweetest thing happened – they had their little boy, Axel, in 2021. I was completely obsessed from the moment I found out!

Perrie explained how Alex reacted to their loss, saying they were incredibly grateful for each other’s support and love. She added that he was mainly concerned for her well-being and felt helpless, as there was nothing he could do to change the situation.

She shared with Glamour that having him there throughout the experience made things significantly easier. She found herself constantly checking on him, asking if *he* was alright, and he would insist it wasn’t about him – but she felt it absolutely was, because they both grieved the loss of their baby and went through the pain together.

‘He’s very like that with emotions, he tries to just suck it up and move on.

It was clear he was deeply upset by what happened, but I believe he was trying to put on a brave face for my sake.

Perrie described feeling devastated when she lost her baby at 22 weeks of pregnancy. The emotional pain was made even harder because her body continued to produce milk, reminding her of her loss.

She remembered being completely shocked by the news. All previous scans had been normal, so they weren’t prepared for the devastating diagnosis at the 22-week scan. The whole experience was deeply upsetting and traumatic.

Let me tell you, one of the most memorable moments of becoming a mom happened just a few days after giving birth. I was in the shower, and suddenly my milk came in – it was such a physical sensation! I immediately ran out of the bathroom yelling for my mom, and she was understandably concerned, asking what was wrong. I just burst out with, ‘I’ve got milk!’ It was such a relief and a joyful moment, realizing my body was doing what it needed to do.

She said, with a sort of resigned tone, that she’d been warned this might occur. Still, I was completely unprepared and utterly heartbroken. That moment was the most difficult part of everything.

‘My body was prepared for the baby, but the baby was gone.’

Perrie is excited about two big events: she’s expecting her second child and is also getting ready to release her first-ever album, simply titled ‘Perrie’.

With her new music coming out soon, she’s the last member of Little Mix to start a solo career, following releases from Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall, and former bandmate Jesy Nelson, which all had different levels of success.

She says her bandmates fully support her, and she’s close friends with them.

It’s amazing, really. We care about each other deeply and just want the best for one another – we want to see each other succeed and be happy.

‘We’ll always message each other, because we know we can depend on each other for advice.

I enjoy exploring my own individual style and seeing how we all express ourselves differently. But I believe that’s what made Little Mix so successful – our diverse personalities and tastes blended perfectly as a group.

The new album, also called ‘Edwards’, comes out on September 26th. Edwards has suggested that one of the songs includes a line about Jesy Nelson leaving Little Mix, referencing the difficult circumstances surrounding her departure.

She explained that ‘Same Place, Different View’ was likely the hardest song to write. It was deeply personal and about another person, so she had to be very careful with her lyrics and how she expressed herself.

This song is about a lost friendship – one that used to be very close but isn’t anymore. We often talk about romantic breakups, but it’s rare to discuss how painful it is when a friendship ends. Losing that friend felt like losing a part of myself.

We were inseparable. I spent every day with her, and we did everything together. We were incredibly close, like best friends.

‘To then not have her in my life anymore was a big thing for me. I found it really hard to adapt.’

The latest issue of Glamour is out now.
