Perrie Edwards alludes to fall out with Jesy Nelson and admits ‘it was like losing a limb’ when their friendship broke down

Perrie Edwards described the end of her friendship with former bandmate Jesy Nelson as incredibly painful, comparing it to losing a part of herself in a recent interview.

Jesy Nelson left Little Mix in December 2020 because she struggled with the pressures of being in a girl group. Over time, she also grew distant from her former bandmates Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall.

The 32-year-old singer discussed a friendship that ended, saying it was difficult getting used to life without that person.

Perrie Edwards’ first solo album comes out on September 26th, and she shared that writing the song ‘Same Place, Different View’ was challenging because it dealt with a difficult breakup.

She recently told Glamour UK that the song is about a lost friendship. While we often discuss romantic breakups, she pointed out that it’s less common to talk about when friendships end.

‘And it was like losing a limb. I was with her every day. We lived in each other’s pockets.’

Perrie explained that she and her friend were incredibly close and did everything together. Losing that friendship was really difficult for her, and she struggled to adjust to life without her.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I heard Perrie talking on Fearne Cotton’s podcast, and she basically said that everything with her and Jesy… it totally fueled a new song! It’s so heartbreaking, but also, like, amazing that she turned that pain into something creative. I’m dying to hear it now, knowing the story behind it!

She explained that she wrote a song about a lost friendship. She feels it’s difficult to discuss when friendships end, as we don’t really have a way of talking about those breakups.

It’s still incredibly painful – experiencing all the ups and downs of a relationship with someone, and then suddenly losing them, is devastating.

‘But these things happen. Do we try and rectify things? Or just stay away?’

Perrie recently revealed she hadn’t spoken to her former Little Mix bandmate, Jesy, in quite a while, and found it very upsetting.

The singer told Cosmopolitan UK that the friendship is now completely broken, sharing their honest feelings about the situation.

She said: ‘We don’t talk and haven’t done for a long time… It’s really sad, it’s heartbreaking.’

You know, life happens, and sometimes relationships just run their course. It’s never easy when things don’t work out as you’d hoped, but I truly believe it’s okay for people to grow apart. You can’t force a connection, and ultimately, you have to accept that you can’t always control the outcome. It’s about acknowledging that and moving forward.

Jesy Nelson previously opened up about her personal life in her 2019 BBC documentary, *Odd One Out*, which detailed her mental health struggles. The documentary also featured appearances from her former bandmates.

The Little Mix singer has shared how online bullying affected her life and mental health, and she’s meeting others who have experienced similar abuse.

The show was incredibly popular and won the award for Best Factual Programme at the National Television Awards in 2020.

While on The X Factor, Jesy experienced cruel online harassment about her appearance, which negatively affected her mental wellbeing.

Jesy shared that immediately after winning The X Factor, she received horrible messages calling her unattractive and threatening her life.

She described that period as the lowest point in her life, explaining that she was defined not by her talent in Little Mix, but by cruel labels focusing on her appearance, specifically being called ‘fat’ and ‘ugly’.

I was so happy to see her lose weight and bravely return to the X Factor in 2013, but it broke my heart to see her still facing awful negativity. Sadly, that constant criticism eventually took a terrible toll and led to her overdose. It was devastating.

Jesy explained that she reached a point of severe depression when she realized that even if she were the thinnest person in the world, her struggles wouldn’t disappear.

Then in December 2020 she confirmed that she was going to leave Little Mix after nine years.

In a post on Instagram, she shared that she’s prioritizing her happiness and explained that being part of the group had negatively impacted her mental health.

‘To all my Mixers, the past nine years in Little Mix has been the most incredible time of my life.

Being in the band has been really hard on my mental health lately. I’m struggling with the constant pressure of being in a girl group and trying to meet everyone’s expectations.

It’s become clear that I need to prioritize my own well-being instead of constantly trying to please others, and I’m starting to do that now.

‘So after much consideration and with a heavy heart, I’m announcing I’m leaving Little Mix.’

You know, lately I’ve been realizing how important it is to prioritize what *truly* makes you happy. I’m taking some time to reconnect with the people I love and focus on activities that genuinely bring me joy. It’s a really needed reset, and I’m excited to focus on my well-being for a bit.

We’ve accomplished so much more than I ever imagined, like winning a Brit Award and selling out shows at the O2.

I’m incredibly grateful to all of you for your friendship and support – you make me feel so lucky and happy to have you in my life.

‘You have always been there to support and encourage me and I will never ever

I’m excited to start a fresh phase of my life, though I don’t know exactly what the future holds. I really hope you’ll continue to be there for me.

I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone who helped us along the way. Your hard work and commitment were essential to our success.

To all of our amazing fans: thank you from the bottom of my heart for coming to our shows, listening to our music, and sending your incredible support. I love you all, and I couldn’t have done any of this without you. I truly appreciate everything.

I just want to say a huge thank you to Jade, Perrie, and Leigh-Anne for all the incredible memories we’ve shared – I’ll cherish them forever. I wish you all the best in achieving your dreams and creating music that brings joy to others. With love, Jesy x.

After leaving her band, Jesy began a solo music career, releasing songs like “Boyz,” “Bad Thing,” and “Mine.” She later decided to take a break from public life.
