Historical romance My Lady Jane has been axed by Amazon Prime Video after only one series. 

The history TV series follows the life of Lady Jane Grey who unexpectedly finds herself crowned queen overnight and becomes the target of criminals who want her throne and head. 

The big-budget series, which stars Emily Bader, 27, as the titular Lady Jane, is based on a series of young adult novels by Gemma Burgess. 

Unfortunately, fans eagerly waiting for more of Lady Jane’s story might find themselves disheartened, since Amazon has decided against renewing the show for another season.

Despite being canceled following its first season, the show garnered positive responses from viewers. The Guardian deemed it “exuberantly absurd,” while Forbes hailed it as one of the top shows in 2024.

Nevertheless, the show didn’t manage to attract the viewership that Amazon Prime Video anticipated, as it fell short of appearing in Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming rankings.

On Saturday, Amazon Prime Video announced some news, sparking a wave of disappointment among viewers who voiced their opinions on the platform once called Twitter.

1. One viewer expressed frustration: “Amazon ending My Lady Jane? It seems they’re against anything lighthearted, humor, historical romance with a twist of drama, enemies-to-lovers plots that include a horse character, and anything playful!”;

The program captivated audiences through the riveting enemies-to-lovers relationship between Jane and Guilford, earning numerous compliments for their convincing on-screen connection and romantic interaction.

After much bold courtship, their interactions culminated into an intense love scene where Jane experienced the act of sexual intimacy for the first time with Guilford.

As a die-hard fan, the announcement that my beloved show has been canceled has left me hanging, frustrated by unresolved character arcs. The series narrator, Oliver Chris, had the audacity to say that “the story isn’t over yet,” but I can’t help but wonder how it will continue without the show.

However, it appears the narrator spoke too soon as Lady Jane only reigned for one season. 

My Lady Jane is inspired by the New York Times bestselling book by US author Cynthia Hand. 

In an interview with Publishers Weekly, Cynthia expressed that her goal was to create a novel centering around Lady Jane Grey, a determined and intellectually curious teenager living in 16th-century England.

‘She had the misfortune to become Queen, but only for nine days and then had her head chopped off.’

“I’ve consistently found Jane Grey’s historical narrative fascinating, apart from its conclusion. This sparked an idea within me: ‘As a writer, I have the power to pen a different, more satisfying conclusion for her story.'”

Based on information from What’s On Netflix, the most recent installments of Bridgerton garnered an astounding 45.1 million views globally on Netflix in only four days after they were released.

Simultaneously, Lady Jane held the 99th spot among the most viewed shows online and claimed the 5th position for the most watched TV series on Amazon, as reported by Television Stats.
