Perfect “unnerving” Cornwall-set mystery drama confirms UK release date

The mystery drama Rose of Nevada, filmed in Cornwall, will be released in UK cinemas next year. The film, currently boasting a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, centers around a fishing boat that mysteriously returns after being lost at sea for three decades.

People in the UK and Ireland will need to wait a few months to see the film, as it’s scheduled to be released in theaters on April 24, 2026.

Featuring George MacKay, known for his role in 1917, and Callum Turner from Masters of the Air, Rose of Nevada tells the story of a fishing boat that mysteriously reappears in a Cornish harbor thirty years after it vanished. For those who remember the boat, its return feels like an important omen.

According to the story’s summary, the village hopes a sea voyage will bring a change of fortune. Young father Nick and a mysterious man named Liam team up with Captain Murgey and set out to sea.

When the crew returns with their treasure, they quickly realize something’s wrong: they’ve traveled back in time, and the villagers believe they are the crew from the past.

According to Little White Lies, the film—directed by Mark Jenkin, who also directed Bait—is both deeply moving and unsettling to watch.

The review noted that as the Rose of Nevada prepared to depart, marked by the harsh sound of its metal parts, onlookers waved a sad farewell, captivated by the beautiful and otherworldly quality of Jenkin’s design.

Both IndieWire and Slant Magazine praised the film, with IndieWire calling it beautifully made and meaningful, and Slant Magazine noting its ability to create a realistic yet strangely magical atmosphere.

According to Variety, repeating the impressive domestic success of Bait will be difficult. However, the film firmly establishes its sole creator as a unique and increasingly well-known voice in arthouse cinema.

According to RogerEbert.com, the film has a captivating rhythm, sometimes emphasized by a steady, repeating sound that lasts for several minutes. The reviewer stated it was unlike anything they’d seen in the past two years, and while the film’s overall meaning wasn’t entirely clear, it was certainly memorable.
