The critically acclaimed British drama, I Swear, is now available on Netflix. The film, based on a real life story, features Robert Aramayo as John Davidson, a man who campaigned for awareness of Tourette’s syndrome while growing up in Scotland during the 1980s.
Kirk Jones wrote and directed the film, and the cast also includes Maxine Peake, Shirley Henderson, and Peter Mullan.
This film is inspired by the life of Scottish activist John Davidson. It tells the story of a man with Tourette’s syndrome who, with the support of his friends, bravely uses his honest and direct way of speaking to challenge the negative perceptions surrounding his condition.

After premiering in UK cinemas in October, the film I Swear is now streaming on Netflix, as it became available on the platform today.
The film has been a huge success with both audiences and critics, earning a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 38 reviews. Deadline called it “a truly delightful must-see.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s charm largely comes from both the sweet and honest performance by Aramayo and the expertly crafted script by writer-director Kirk Jones.
Empire Magazine praised the film, calling it “just lovely” and noting that it finally gives a good cinematic portrayal of Tourette syndrome. They especially highlighted the likable and humorous character of John Davidson, and Robert Aramayo’s excellent performance as him.
According to Time Out, the show is both compassionate and humorous, challenging common perceptions while allowing viewers to find the funny side of things – all without losing sight of the person at the center of it.

According to The Times, Aramayo delivers a technically brilliant and deeply moving performance, completely overshadowing any weaknesses. They described it as truly astonishing.
At this year’s EE BAFTA Film Awards, Aramayo was named Leading Actor, beating out acclaimed stars like Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, Michael B. Jordan, and Jesse Plemons.
After the incident at the awards show, BAFTA apologized when involuntary outbursts from Tourette’s advocate Davidson, including a racist comment made while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were onstage, were broadcast during the ceremony.
