Percy Jackson reveals Tyson casting at SDCC 2024
As a devoted fan of Percy Jackson and the Olympians since my childhood, I’m beyond excited for the upcoming second season and the addition of Daniel Diemer to the cast as Tyson! The previous adaptation from 2013 left much to be desired, so it’s refreshing to see a new approach with improved technology and fresh faces.
As a longtime fan of the Percy Jackson series, I’m thrilled to hear that the second season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is on its way, even though filming hasn’t started yet. And what a fantastic piece of casting news we received at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con! Daniel Diemer, who charmed us all in “The Half of It,” will be joining the cast as Percy’s cyclops half-brother Tyson.
In the stories, Percy, portrayed by Walker Scobell on screen, discovers that although Poseidon, his father, never had children with mortals before, he did have a son with a nature spirit. This union produced Tyson, the cyclops. Initially, Percy encounters Tyson at school and remains oblivious to their relationship or the fact that Tyson is a cyclops.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is based on Rick Riordan’s best-selling book series of the same name. It takes place in a world where the Greek gods are real and continue to have children with mortals. Percy is one such half-blood, a son of Poseidon. There are now several spinoffs series, and a whole host of other books set in the world. In 2011, the first book was adapted into a movie starring Logan Lerman. Fans did not like it. (And neither did Riordan).
The new show provides an opportunity for the story to be told anew. Starting next week, production on Season 2 will commence, based on the second book titled “The Sea of Monsters.”
The first season of Percy Jackson is available to stream on Disney Plus.
