Everyone is excited for Steven Spielberg’s latest sci-fi thriller, Disclosure Day, and many believe it might connect to his famous film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Although many suspect the new film is a secret continuation of the 1977 hit, the long, nearly 50-year gap isn’t the strangest rumor about Spielberg’s latest work.
The most prominent theory suggests that the famous director of films like Jurassic Park and Raiders of the Lost Ark is collaborating with the US government to reveal authentic information about aliens to the public.

Screenwriter David Koepp recently addressed rumors about the film, telling SFX Magazine he especially liked one particular theory. He shared with GamesRadar, “I love that one!”
He believed this information was important and they were releasing it gradually through entertainment to help people process it, fearing a widespread panic if it were revealed all at once. He jokingly referred to this as a popular and well-developed internet conspiracy theory, saying he found it amusing.
What to Read Next
Disappointing news for those hoping the movie was based on real aliens: writer Koepp confirmed it’s entirely fictional, joking that he’s never been approached by any government officials about it.
With so little known about the story before next month’s release, it’s understandable that fans are creating all sorts of theories – even the really wild ones – about Disclosure Day.

Emily Blunt stars as Margaret Fairchild, a weather forecaster who experiences a peculiar occurrence at her job. After this strange event, she connects with Daniel Kellner (played by Josh O’Connor), a cybersecurity specialist who believes he has proof of extraterrestrial life.
Someone with connections to the government is trying to silence them and cover up what they’ve learned. But has the truth already gotten out? Their discoveries might have huge consequences for the entire planet.
Disclosure Day is released in UK cinemas on 10 June.
