People are all pointing out the same major error in Christopher Nolan’s new movie

After catching the initial glimpse of director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, it seems that some dedicated fans have spotted a significant blunder. As a passionate admirer myself, I can’t help but share this intriguing find.

As a gamer, I’m hyped about the upcoming movie adaptation! This epic tale is inspired by Homer’s timeless 8th-century poem and has me, playing the role of Odysseus, King of Ithaca – portrayed by Matt Damon. After the grueling Trojan War, I’ll be navigating my way back home to embrace Penelope, my beloved wife once more.

Yesterday, a depiction of Damon wearing armor was revealed, but some have noted an obvious mistake: he is dressed in Hoplite armor, which belongs to a later historical period, instead of the appropriate Mycenaean style. Additionally, the armor appears less elaborate than what a king would typically wear in that era.

1. User 1: “The armor here feels more like it’s from 6 centuries ago… Nolan, you didn’t pass the first test.”

2. User 2: “I hope Hollywood doesn’t show us bronze armor and oversaturated colors of the *checks note* MYCENAEAN BRONZE AGE.” (This version is a bit more concise but maintains the original meaning.)

A user shared an updated design for a ship, asking: “Considering the outdated look of his clothing, could it be possible that the ships depicted are accurate, or might we simply be left with this concept instead?

Sharing a scene from Family Guy, a user on X/Twitter proposed that the animated series might be providing a more authentic representation of Bronze Age armor compared to an overwhelming majority (99%) of other media.

However, others supported this decision, with one person remarking: “It’s alright. Those who think that a Dendra panoply (full body armor) would suit well in films have probably not watched the classic Doctor Who series.

The Canenan armor might be intriguing, yet it’s classic fantasy all the way. Let’s go with that understanding.

In addition to Damon, I’m thrilled about the star-studded cast of The Odyssey, which includes Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Robert Pattinson. And here’s something exciting for fellow movie enthusiasts like me – this epic tale will be brought to life on the grand IMAX screen!

The Odyssey is scheduled to be released in cinemas on July 17, 2026.
