Terry Cox, the drummer for the band Pentangle, has passed away at the age of 89. He famously collaborated with musical icons like Elton John, David Bowie, and the Bee Gees throughout his career.
People everywhere are sharing their memories and praise after the legendary musician died. The reason for his death has not yet been revealed.
Pentangle shared the sad news of drummer Terry Cox‘s passing. They described him as a vital part of the band – a uniquely gifted and intuitive musician.
Together with Danny Thompson, he created a rhythm section that broke down the usual limits of folk, jazz, and other genres.
‘Our love and condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who knew him.’
Terry collaborated with many famous artists, including Alexis Korner, Mike Batt, Scott Walker, Rupert Hine, Long John Baldry, Rick Springfield, and Charles Aznavour.
He notably played the drums alongside Bowie on his iconic Space Oddity single.
Terry played on Elton John’s second album, released in 1970, and again on his 1971 album, Madman Across The Water.
Fans took to social media to express their sadness, with one writing, ‘Rest in peace to a member of what many consider the most musically gifted band ever, where everyone was a true expert.’

They always felt like close friends casually stopping by for a chat and a cup of tea, then sharing their latest music. Rest in peace, Terry.

Jacqui McShee is now the only surviving member from Pentangle’s original band lineup.
Guitarists Bert Jansch and John Renbourn passed away in 2011 and 2016, and bassist Danny Thompson died in 2023.
Terry rejoined Pentangle for their 1980s reunion and also performed with the band’s popular lineup in both 2008 and 2011.
