Penny Lancaster shared that she provided breast milk to her grandchildren when Rod Stewart’s daughter, Kimberly, experienced difficulties with milk production.
The TV star, 54, shared that she didn’t nurse her children herself, but assisted their mother, Kimberly, 46, by providing expressed breast milk.
Penny, who shares two sons with Rod, has four grandchildren – Louie, Elsie, Delilah, and Otis.
I was so touched hearing Penny discuss her experience on the Postcards from Midlife podcast, while promoting her memoir, Someone Like Me. She shared that she’s always been able to breastfeed and was genuinely happy to offer support to others when she could.
When asked about the situation, the model explained: ‘Not quite breastfed. Gave breast milk.’
In a separate interview with The Times, Penny explained further that Kimberly didn’t produce sufficient milk for breastfeeding after their daughter, Delilah, was born in the summer of 2011.

Penny gave birth to her and husband Rod’s second son, Aiden Stewart, in February 2011.
It was such a special moment for me as a new mom. I’ll never forget when the breastfeeding nurse said, “In a perfect world, you’d know someone who’s breastfeeding” – and then everyone just looked at me! It felt like a really sweet, but also slightly awkward, motherhood bonding moment. I was just so glad I could be that person for them, you know? It was a breastfeeding experience I’ll always cherish.
She went on to say, ‘I recall wondering, “What matters most for this baby?” I realized my breast milk would provide the nourishment and immune-boosting antibodies she required.’
When discussing her children, Penny explained: ‘I went through IVF, which involved a lot – self-injecting hormones into my stomach and backside, and enduring multiple rounds of treatment. It took three attempts before it was successful.’
I gained a lot of weight while I was pregnant – I was really big. And it was hard to lose it after the baby was born. I decided it didn’t matter too much, because I have two wonderful children.
I feel fortunate that I was able to breastfeed. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of. But you eventually realize there’s no need to rush losing the weight.
However, after a few years, I started to notice changes. Since I had my last child when I was 40, around five years later, I began experiencing perimenopause. And that’s when the weight really started to accumulate.
Penny shared that she was prepared to end her marriage with Rod if he didn’t want to have children, and this was before they went through the difficult process of IVF in an attempt to build a family together.

The model and the rocker have been married for 18 years. She recently revealed that when they started dating, he was hesitant about having more children, as he already had six children with four different mothers.
Rod has five children. He and his former partner, Susannah Boffey, have a daughter, Sarah Streeter, who is 60 years old. He also has a daughter, Kimberly, 45, and a son, Sean, 44, with his ex-wife, actress Alana Stewart. With another former partner, Kelly Emberg, he shares a daughter, Ruby, 37, and with Rachel Hunter, he has a daughter, Renee, who is 32.
When asked if she would end things with Rod if he didn’t change his stance, Penny replied: ‘Yes. It would have been really difficult, but we decided to go with the flow.’
I was really touched when she mentioned that Rod now says he wishes he’d given in and they could have had more children together. It’s just so heartbreaking to hear him say that now, realizing they could have built an even bigger family if things had been different. It really shows how much he regrets not agreeing to it sooner, and it’s just a sad situation overall.
She shared with Saga Magazine: ‘We considered adoption even five years prior, but it didn’t work out. Our concern was that there could have been too significant of an age difference.’
Penny had always said she wanted a family, so she was heartbroken when she miscarried after becoming pregnant. They then tried IVF and eventually welcomed two sons, Alastair, now 19, and Aiden, 14.
Oh my gosh, I was *so* glued to BBC Breakfast this morning! She talked about her IVF journey, and it was just… everything. Honestly, she had the sweetest things to say about her husband, calling him so patient with her throughout the whole process. I mean, he really was her rock, wasn’t he? It’s just so heartwarming to see them support each other like that. I’m obsessed with them!
She explained that she needed a specific number of injections – one in the stomach and one in the buttocks. She described giving herself these injections in various places, including backstage at Rod’s concerts, on airplanes, and at home – basically, wherever she needed to.
Rod was incredibly patient and dedicated. He simply told me, “Look, darling, if you want to keep trying, I fully support you. Let’s pursue this.“
Penny acknowledged that even though she and Rod went through a difficult IVF process, there were also some brighter times. She also shared: ‘He maintained a wonderful sense of humour throughout it all.’
I just *can’t* get over it! He’s always telling this story about going to the doctor, and how they actually looked at his sperm under a microscope! Can you believe it? He says one of them had two heads, and another one… get this… had a couple of feet! It’s just… fascinating. I’ve heard it a million times, and I still think about it. It’s the most amazing thing ever, honestly. I need to know everything about it! It’s just… incredible.

The Special Constable also suggested we need to talk more freely about fertility, explaining: ‘I believe both women and men should feel comfortable discussing the serious aspects, while also rediscovering a bit of joy in the process.’
Describing how they first met, Penny – who’s currently promoting her new memoir – explained: ‘It was a Christmas party, and a friend of mine dared me to go and get an autograph, and it happened to be Rod Stewart.‘
Presenter Charlotte Gallagher then asked Penny about her parents’ reaction when they found out she and Rod were dating.
She then shared that people always suspected she preferred older partners, but regarding Rod Stewart, they felt, “this relationship might present some challenges or difficulties.”
Actually, my father, who was a lawyer working in London, decided he would wear a leather jacket to their meeting. And Rod responded by saying he’d wear a pinstripe suit, like a lawyer himself.
They initially met by swapping clothes, which was a fun way to get acquainted. After that, they hit it off immediately, and my mum really got along with him too. I think it’s because they’re from roughly the same generation and are nearly the same age.
Rod encountered his future wife, Penny Lancaster, only six months after ending things with Rachel. He jokingly explained that the delay in meeting was simply because a friend wouldn’t give him Penny’s phone number.
When someone asked if he preferred being single, he jokingly replied: ‘Absolutely! There was a six-month gap between my relationships with Rachel and Penny because my bass player, who had Penny’s phone number, refused to share it with me.’
He told me, “That’s all you’ll be doing from now on – just relax and enjoy yourself,” and he turned out to be correct. I really had a wonderful time during those six months.
Rod enthusiastically praised his wife, Penny, sharing that she possesses everything he could ask for and that he’s currently feeling more content than ever before. He revealed his happiness, emphasizing how much she means to him.
