Penny Lancaster, 54, gushes Rod Stewart, 80, is ‘so youthful he’s a machine’ who has promised to give her ‘another 20 years’… but she did have to convince his kids she wasn’t a gold digger

Penny Lancaster raved about her husband, Rod Stewart, saying he’s incredibly youthful – almost like a machine – while discussing their relationship on Monday.

The 54-year-old TV star has been married to the 80-year-old musician for 18 years. When they first started dating, she had to assure his six children she wasn’t only interested in his wealth.

When the couple first met, Penny was 27-years-old and Rod was 53, with two marriages behind him.

According to Saga Magazine, the Police Constable shared that Rod Stewart, despite their age difference, has jokingly promised her another twenty years of something – likely their relationship.

I’m constantly amazed by Rod! He’s got this incredible energy – it’s like he’s powered by a machine. There’s just no slowing him down. He’s always the one suggesting adventures, whether it’s a night out or even a spontaneous trip to Paris! Honestly, sometimes I feel like we *just* went out, but he’s already planning the next thing. He talks about needing to relax, but he never actually will – he’s just unstoppable.

We’re already planning tours for the next couple of years. He jokingly told me on his 80th birthday that he’d work for another twenty years.

The Loose Women star shared that she didn’t initially like Rod when they first met, but he quickly won her over with his charm and personality.

His family wasn’t thrilled about the relationship at first, largely because Rod was already the father of six children with four different mothers.

Penny explained that people kept asking what she wanted from her partner’s exes. She just thought he was a good person. She always made an effort to be friendly with his exes, wanting to show them she wasn’t trying to replace them or cause trouble.

Rod Stewart had a daughter, Sarah, with his former girlfriend Susannah Boffey when he was 17, and he placed her for adoption. He later developed a relationship with Boffey.

He shared three children: Kimberly, 47, and Sean, 45, with his former wife, Alana Stewart, and Ruby, 38, with ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg.

During his marriage to Rachel Hunter, the lead singer of the band Faces had two additional children: Renee, now 33, and Liam, who is 30.

Penny and Rod later welcomed sons Alastair, 19, and Aiden, 14.

It comes after Rod recently opened up about how his split from Rachel ‘tore him to shreds’.

Looking back on everything, Rod finally admitted that the age difference between us really was the core reason our marriage couldn’t last. It’s sad to say, but he believes it ultimately drove us apart.

In a rare discussion about his former wife, he shared with The Times that Rachel ended their marriage because she felt she wasn’t ready. He also revealed his sister had warned him against marrying her, and the separation was incredibly painful for him.

Rod Stewart met his future wife, Penny Lancaster, only six months after ending things with Rachel. He jokingly said the delay in meeting Penny was simply because a friend refused to give him her phone number.

He jokingly responded to the question of whether he’d wanted to be single, explaining there was a six-month gap between relationships with Rachel and Penny. He blamed this on his bass player, who refused to share Penny’s phone number with him.

He told me I’d basically be wasting time, and he turned out to be right – I had a wonderful six months.

Rod publicly expressed his love for his wife, Penny, saying she possesses all the qualities he looks for in a partner and that he’s incredibly happy with their relationship.

Rod Stewart first encountered his former wife, Rachel, at a Los Angeles club called Roxbury. He later described her as a ‘goddess’ in his 2012 autobiography.

He said they clicked immediately. She was stunning, but also very direct and practical.

‘It was there in her New Zealand accent, but also in her face, which was open and smart.

She completely defied the typical image of a struggling model – she was already successful and financially secure.

Honestly, it’s such a weight off my shoulders when I can finally be sure someone genuinely likes *me* – not just my lifestyle or what I can offer. It’s a question I often find myself asking, especially in my line of work, and it’s incredibly validating when the answer is clear.
