Penn Badgley’s Final Fight Scene in You Sparks Secret Wardrobe Battle

In the spotlight, Penn Badgley discusses his efforts to achieve a particular visual style during Joe’s climactic showdown in the last episode of the series.

Discussing the making of the last intense fight sequence in the series, Badgley shared insights about Joe Goldberg’s minimal clothing during the scene. “That was probably the one and only time I fought to be nearly nude,” Badgley stated humorously. Interestingly, the writers and the director, especially Lee, were reluctant about having him in his underwear for this scene. I can’t recall the precise reason why.

In Badgley’s words, it seems that the character wore the tank top to visibly display the buildup of blood, sweat, and dirt over the scene sequence. This was likely done to portray his character’s vulnerability and strength at the same time – a paradoxical state, as Joe is both exposed and powerful due to being an abuser who manipulates women through charm.

According to author Caroline Kepnes’ book series, which started with the 2014 novel “You,” we have a character who is an obsessive serial killer. This individual stalks women and develops intense, dangerous romantic relationships with them, eventually adding them to his growing list of victims. The series based on these novels debuted in 2018 and received widespread acclaim from both critics and viewers. The first season of “You” even managed a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. As of now, the fifth and final season of “You,” which premiered on Netflix on April 24, has an 81% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on the average of 32 critical reviews.

As a movie critic, I found myself deeply engrossed in the climactic season of this captivating series, where the narrative predominantly revolved around the intricate relationships and manipulations between my protagonist, Joe, and the Lockwood family. Among them were Kate Lockwood-Goldberg, portrayed superbly by Charlotte Ritchie, Teddy Lockwood, played by Griffin Matthews, and Anna Camp, who deftly took on dual roles as both Reagan and Maddie Lockwood.

In addition to the usual glitz and glamour of the ultra-rich, we were introduced to a seemingly bohemian playwright named Bronte, who serendipitously entered Joe’s life. However, as the layers peeled away, it became evident that Bronte was far from the carefree spirit she initially appeared to be. Instead, she proved to be anything but the twisted soulmate Joe had hoped for at her core.
