Pedro Pascal's Gladiator 2 character leaves fans nostalgic for The Mandalorian

As a huge fan of Pedro Pascal, I’m absolutely thrilled to see him take on yet another remarkable role in “Gladiator 2.” His transformation into Roman General Marcus Acacius is truly impressive, and it’s impossible not to draw parallels between his character here and Din Djarin from “The Mandalorian.”

Pedro Pascal has been making waves in recent years with his leading roles in popular TV shows including “Narcos,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Last of Us,” and “The Mandalorian.” Now, excitement is building as he takes on a new challenge in the upcoming sequel to Ridley Scott’s iconic film “Gladiator,” titled “Gladiator 2” – with fans noticing striking similarities between his character in this production and his role as The Mandalorian.

Since the unveiling of the “Gladiator 2” trailer on July 9, the web has been abuzz with excitement. Many netizens have commended Pascal’s remarkable metamorphosis into Roman General Marcus Acacius. In this preview, Pascal is depicted engaged in an epic battle against Paul Mescal (Lucius) within the Coliseum, and brandishing a sword – evoking memories of Din Djarin and his Darksaber for some viewers. Social media users have been actively sharing their opinions on Pascal’s transformation into a Roman General, as well as playfully merging Grogu into stills from the trailer.

In the third season of “The Mandalorian,” many viewers anticipated a scene where Pascal, without his helmet, would engage in a duel with Bo-Katan over the Darksaber. Yet, instead of clashing, the two Mandalorians decided to team up and aim to restore Mandalore. The absence of Din Djarin unmasked and an entire season devoid of this desired scene left some fans feeling let down. Fortunately, Pedro’s involvement in “Gladiator 2” will grant fans their wish: a glimpse into Pascal without his helmet during an epic duel.

In the trailer, there’s a scene where Marcus Acacius bows his head in a way that brings to mind Din Djarin from “The Mandalorian” Season 3.

In previous roles, Pascal has brought a character resembling Din Djarin to life, most notably as an adoptive father in “The Last of Us” on HBO. For fans, this portrayal felt like a déjà vu experience. In both shows, Pedro’s mission was to shield his defenseless adopted child, a role he has mastered. Upcoming projects include playing a superhero in Marvel’s “Fantastic Four,” but Star Wars enthusiasts eagerly anticipate updates about Pascal joining “The Mandalorian” and Grogu. Fans hope to see him don the Mando suit this time around, with the expectation that the production will showcase Pedro Pascal’s exceptional talent in intense fights and action sequences, akin to those seen in “Gladiator 2.”

The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+.
