Pedro Pascal Fights for Survival in Freaky Tales
On Tuesday, I got excited about the release of the official trailer for Freaky Tales, a show where I’ll be seeing Pedro Pascal and the late Angus Cloud in action, thanks to Lionsgate.
In the thrilling preview, Pascal finds himself ensnared in a criminal network while confronting formidable adversaries and struggling to outrun his troublesome past.
In the story, the 49-year-old actor takes on the role of Clint, a former felon who unwillingly becomes part of a scheme to snatch antiquities from an NBA athlete’s residence.
Yet, it is during these segments of the narrative, divided into four parts, that he interacts with peculiar, eccentric personalities, causing him some confusion.
In the film, Pascal stars opposite Ben Mendelsohn, Jay Ellis, Normani, Tom Hanks and many more.
The movie trailer additionally showcases the last on-screen performance of the late actor from Euphoria, a role he undertook prior to his untimely passing.
Cloud filmed the movie in his hometown before he passed away at the age of 25 in July 2023.

The 1987-set action-comedy anthology, jointly directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, weaves together four tales that are intrinsically linked, taking place in the vibrant city of Oakland, California.
The film’s summary portrays it as a vibrant medley featuring a diverse ensemble of characters – an NBA player, a morally questionable police officer, a dynamic duo of female rappers, rebellious teenagers, white supremacists, and a debt collector – all headed towards a dramatic confrontation in a whirlwind of standoffs and conflicts.
The trailer begins with ’90s-inspired text flashing across the screen to set the scene.
In the opening scene, Pascal sets the tone for the intense, violent trailer as he provides a voiceover while a series of scenes unfold, painting a picture of the environment in this collection of stories.
The underrated one believes he can accomplish the unthinkable – feeding the aggressive and selling enough mixtapes to escape the urban neighborhood – he expresses this thought, while a biker is speeding along a winding mountain path as the sun dips over the California cityscape.
Flashbacks of all four interwoven stories play as Clint narrates.
‘I can say with certainty, this underdog has seen his last day,’ he adds.
Alongside Clint portrayed by Pascal, Normani also assumes a leading role within this collection of tales. As a budding vocalist, she takes on the fitting nickname “Entice.”
Besides Pascal playing Clint, Normani is one of the main characters in the mixtape. She’s an aspiring singer known as Entice.

Ellis takes on the role of both a real-life basketball player for the Golden State Warriors and a fictional samurai warrior, concealing the fact that he is exceptionally proficient with a samurai sword.
Mendelsohn plays a debt collector and underworld figure who is only referred to as ‘The Guy.’
In the initial segment, Ji-young Yoo portrays Tina, a frequent patron of a club alongside her melancholic companion Lucid, played by Jack Champion.
Following a sequence of reminiscent scenes, we find Clint sitting in his vehicle, leaning across to plant a kiss on his partner seated beside him. He then tenderly places his hand on her abdomen, gently stroking the growing baby bump.
While he remains comfortably seated, sporting a cheerful smile, it’s yet unnoticed by him that a man brandishing a gun is poised against the exterior of the car window.
The stories are absolutely terrifying, the text announces, switching the narrative focus from Clint to another primary figure on the screen.
He tells them to pause for a moment, “Let’s start over again,” he explains as the video rewinds and old scenes play out on the screen like memories flashing by.
In a preliminary scene, Clint sits across from Dawson, who is played by Max Carpenter, in a diner.
In a turn of events, the co-criminal proposes to Clint an opportunity to reclaim his old position, which he apparently abandoned in favor of his partner and the mother of his child, as they get ready to embark on their family journey together.

Dawson says to a visibly upset Clint, “There’s another task for you,” as he hands him an envelope.
Floyd, the weary basketball player for the Warriors, will have an unoccupied home on game nights according to what he shared with Clint regarding their heist scheme. The house conceals a vault brimming with antique Asian artifacts.
Then, Clint tells him: ‘Yesterday was the last job.’
He is seen entering a gambling den and approaching a man sitting down to collect his debts.
The man is later seen willingly holding his hand up to Clint for him to break his fingers.
‘I’m done,’ Clint says.
Mendelsohn’s The Guy then tells him: ‘You’re done when we say you’re done.’
Moving back to the scene inside the diner, Clint retrieves a lighter and incinerates the envelope. He addresses Dawson with an expletive, causing Dawson to raise an eyebrow in surprise and disbelief at such a bold move.

A diverse array of swiftly moving sequences unfold, demonstrating how the lives of the four primary characters intertwine surprisingly yet effortlessly.
Clint is seen walking into a video store, which is where Tom Hanks’ character works.
Normani and a companion are spotted engaged in conversation as they exit a cinema following a film screening.
After that, there have been differing opinions about what transpired, but here’s my version of events.
In the scene, the character Travis (previously portrayed by the deceased actor Cloud), suddenly shows up and shouts: “I’ve discovered it!” Simultaneously, a concealed wall within the video store is exposed, disclosing additional mysteries.
Then, he is seen with The Guy, running back the room he’s in and slamming the door shut.
Cloud informs The Guy, cradling a baby, that ‘Floyd is out there, chopping people with a sword.’
At a certain moment, it’s Clint who appears with the very same infant that The Guy had been nurturing earlier, as he tended to his injuries.

Across the screen unfold a series of intense, fast-moving sequences that portray the adversaries engaging in illicit activities such as drug use, aggression, and criminal behavior.
or
The scenes whiz by on the screen at breakneck speed, each one showing our foes involved in illegal acts like drugs, violence, and crime.
or
A rapid succession of high-energy, swiftly moving scenes fill the screen, revealing the bad guys participating in illicit activities such as drug use, brutality, and criminality.
At the end of the trailer, Clint is stopped while walking down the street.
“What’s your story?” To which Clint replies: “I messed with the wrong person.” (more polite and less explicit)
In the opening chapter, titled “Strength in Unity: The Gilman Gang Counterattacks,” Yoo is featured alongside her club companions as they bravely retaliate against a horde of neo-Nazi thugs.
In Chapter 2, titled “Don’t Fight the Feeling”, we delve into the tale of Barbie, portrayed by Dominique Thorne, and Entice, played by Normani. Together, they form a duo known as Danger Zone, who work at an ice cream parlor to finance their education and take turns showcasing their rapping skills during open-mic nights.
In Chapter 3, Born to Mack, the story follows Pascal’s life as a crime-world debt collector.
In Chapter 4, titled “The Legend of Sleepy Floyd,” Ellis’s character takes on the role of an NBA All-Star and delves into the narrative of his life beyond the basketball court.
Freaky Tales features music composed by the award-winning singer-songwriter Raphael Saadiq.
The forthcoming anthology action-comedy is receive a theatrical release on April 4, 2025.
