Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man spoilers follow.
Now that Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is playing in theaters, an original cast member from the Peaky Blinders series has spoken about why they weren’t in the new Netflix film. The movie, the first full-length feature for the show, follows Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) as he returns to Birmingham during World War II, continuing the popular historical drama.
Okay, so the movie’s written by Steven Knight and directed by Tom Harper, and honestly, it’s cool to see some fresh blood in the series. Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan are new to the franchise, and they both really stand out – I’m excited to see what they bring to the table!

The new film features many familiar faces alongside Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, but Paul Anderson won’t be returning as Arthur Shelby Jr., Tommy’s older brother.
Even though he wasn’t involved in The Immortal Man, Anderson shared his positive reaction with LADbible, saying, “It’s fantastic. I really think it is. I was a little worried at first, since we created something really good previously.”

He explained his decision to step away, saying, “I figured it was best to let things play out without me.” He added that he was happy with how things turned out, even acknowledging he hadn’t always been the most pleasant character on the show, but that viewers seemed to enjoy his portrayal anyway.
Many see The Immortal Man as the end of this chapter for the historical drama, but the show’s writer and creator, Knight, has suggested that future stories set in this world are still possible.
Anderson said they’re planning two more seasons, but it’s unclear whether Knight wants to focus on a younger cast or a completely new group of Peaky Blinders characters. He clarified that Tommy Shelby will still be part of the show.

It’s still unclear if Anderson will continue with the series, but the movie has been well-received by critics. Currently, 91% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes have given it a positive review, based on 32 reviews.
In a four-star review, Digital Spy praised the film for providing a satisfying conclusion to the story rather than simply extending it unnecessarily. We felt it was an excellent way to wrap things up.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is out now in select cinemas, and will come to Netflix on 20 March.
