Peaky Blinders movie filming continues with a bang as explosions are heard in Liverpool city centre

As a devoted fan of Peaky Blinders since its inception, I must say it’s like Christmas has come early! The news that the series is returning with a film adaptation has filled me with sheer delight. Having grown up in the Midlands myself, the gritty realism and intricate storylines have always resonated deeply.

Filming for the Peaky Blinders film, titled “The Immortal Man,” resumed on Friday, with the cast traveling to St. George’s Hall in Liverpool to shoot their next set of scenes.

The actors assembled outside while the old, significant structure transformed into an air raid shelter, accompanied by numerous detonations.

A bright, fiery-orange glow along with smoke billowed from the location during filming at night, mimicking real fires.

On the filming location as well, a spacious, two-level green bus reminiscent of a city bus was present. Yet, the main performer, Cillian Murphy, did not appear.

It seemed difficult to identify the primary cast members amidst the explosions, as it appeared that additional cast members had congregated outside instead.

Last week, the filming for the movie started officially in Liverpool. To celebrate this moment, Cillian Murphy, aged 48, put on his famous Tommy Shelby attire and posted a photo of it on Netflix’s official account.

From 2013 to 2022, the individual who won an Oscar portrayed a gangster in the critically acclaimed BBC series. Now, he’s making a return to the silver screen with a major film release.

He will also be joined by new cast members Barry Keoghan, Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Roth.

Initially, it appeared that unidentified locations were being filmed, as vehicles approached under tight security supervision, allowing only authorized personnel access to the shooting site.

In a highly-anticipated comeback, Cillian was spotted with showmaster Steven Knight, both seeming at ease on the filming location.

The caption read: ‘By order of the Peaky Blinders… Tommy Shelby is back’.

While details about the storyline are scarce, it’s been announced that Steven will be back as the writer, joining forces with Tom Harper, who previously directed episodes from the initial season, to take charge of the project.

It became known in August that Barry from Salburn Studios had signed up for the show, however, specifics about his role are still kept under wraps.

Barry has had an impressive career over the past few years starring in Saltburn, Top Boy and The Banshees of Inisherin.

In June 2024, Netflix confirmed that they had given the go-ahead for the making of a new feature film, with plans for production to start by the end of the year.

It was confirmed in June that the original writing and directing crew of the Peaky Blinders, along with Cillian Murphy, will be back for the Netflix movie adaptation of the popular British TV show.

Netflix announced the development of X project by sharing a picture of the script, whereas the Academy Award-winning actor hinted to Deadline: “It appears that Tommy Shelby isn’t done with me yet…

1) “I’m really thrilled to once again work alongside Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the movie adaptation of Peaky Blinders. It’s a treat that’ll surely delight the fans.

Initially, when I took on directing duties for ‘Peaky Blinders’ more than a decade back, we weren’t certain about the show’s ultimate destiny. Yet, we were convinced that there was a potent mix in the combination of our talented cast and captivating writing that had a powerful, almost explosive quality.

It’s thrilling to be back together with Steve and Cillian again, as we delve into the familiar territory of ‘Peaky’, a tale centered around family. We can’t wait to share this cinematic experience with viewers worldwide on Netflix.

Since its debut in 2013, the TV series Peaky Blinders has captured massive audiences not just in the UK but also abroad, landing prominent acting roles for renowned actors like Tom Hardy and Anya Taylor-Joy on the big screen.

The show takes its general inspiration from an actual Birmingham-based gang, active during the same time period (from the 1880s to the 1920s), and they were involved in similar illicit activities as their fictional counterparts in the series.

Over the course of nine years, the gripping drama Peaky Blinders unfolded across six series, ultimately concluding with Tommy, who’d been deceived into thinking he had a fatal illness, surviving an assassination attempt masterminded by his nephew. In a twist of events, Tommy ended up taking his nephew’s life before embarking on a fresh journey for a new beginning.
