The new lead of Peaky Blinders has been revealed as Billy Elliot star Jamie Bell.
The 40-year-old actor will play Duke Shelby, the son of Tommy Shelby, in a new story taking place a decade after the conclusion of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
The casting for the show, which will air on BBC and Netflix, was announced on Thursday night.
Jamie will be joined by Charlie Heaton, known for his role in Stranger Things, Jessica Brown Findlay from Downton Abbey, Lashana Lynch who starred in The Day of The Jackal and No Time to Die, and West End performer Lucy Karczewski.
As a lifestyle observer, I remember when this actor first captured everyone’s attention! He was only 14 years old when he landed the role in Billy Elliot, and it was an incredible performance – he even won a BAFTA for it! It really launched his career, and it’s amazing to see how far he’s come.
Since the film Billy Elliot came out in 2000, Jamie Bell has appeared in several other movies, including King Kong, Jumper, The Adventures of Tintin, Rocketman, and All Of Us Strangers.
The popular series will be back on BBC and Netflix with a new story focusing on the next generation of the Shelby family, created by Steven Knight.
Steven expressed his excitement about the future of Peaky Blinders, announcing a new phase of the story set in Birmingham after the war, in the early 1950s.
We’re thrilled to have Jamie Bell join the cast as Duke Shelby, Tommy Shelby’s eldest son, alongside Charlie Heaton. Expect more casting news soon, as Peaky Blinders is back in production!
Okay, so, imagine this: it’s the post-war world, about ten years after everything, and Birmingham is just… broken. But everyone’s scrambling to rebuild, and it’s not just about bricks and mortar, you know? It’s this HUGE, intense fight – almost legendary, like something out of a myth – to claim the city. Honestly, it’s going to be epic. I can feel it!
This city offers incredible chances, but also faces serious threats. At the center of it all is Duke Shelby (Jamie Bell)—he’s older now, more experienced, more driven, and definitely more of a threat than before.
Jamie will take on the role of Duke after Barry Keoghan played Tommy’s son in The Immortal Man.
Two new TV shows are in production, and filming has begun. Lashana, age 38, was spotted filming on location in Birmingham this week.
Peaky Blinders aired from 2013 to 2022 and told the story of the Shelby family as they navigated life from 1919 through the 1930s.
The Peaky Blinders TV show concluded in the 1930s, and the planned movie takes place during World War II. Therefore, any future series would need to be set quite a few years later.
I’m so excited for the new episodes! From what I’ve heard, they’re going to be set in the 1950s, which is a really fascinating and dangerous time. Apparently, we’ll see a lot about the violent Teddy Boy gangs and the beginnings of the Kray twins’ rise to power in London. It sounds amazing!
