“Peak comedy”: Beyond Paradise moment leaves viewers in hysterics as new season premieres

The fourth season of Beyond Paradise premiered tonight, and fans were especially thrilled by one scene. An interview between Constable Kelby Hartford, played by Dylan Llewellyn, and Mr. Bevan quickly became a hit online, with many calling it hilarious.

Kelby learned about the surprisingly minor offenses the bookmaker had experienced, like being tapped on the head with a newspaper and, unbelievably, having someone steal his dog’s poop. It’s true – those were actually things that happened to him.

Mr. Bevan got the best line of the episode when he told Kelby—though he kept mistakenly calling him Kelly—that the thief was wearing a tracksuit that was too big and revealing.

He chuckled and said, “Kids these days, right?” Then, jokingly, he added, “With all the facial recognition technology now, you’d have more luck identifying people by their backsides.”

Fans of the detective show loved the comment, and many shared their excitement online. One user posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “We need to see more scenes with this character and Kelly – it’s hilarious!”

Viewers shared their enthusiasm for Mr. Bevan, with one saying they loved him. Others praised a performer known as ‘arse recognition,’ calling him hilarious and giving him a shout-out.

Zahra Ahmadi, who plays DS Esther Williams in the popular show, recently shared with Digital Spy that her character needs to become more open and less guarded.

Honestly, it’s really bugging me to see her like this. It’s just not helping her anymore. She’s gotten to the point where constantly shutting down her feelings and trying to be strong all the time is seriously unhealthy. It’s not just annoying to watch, it’s actively making things worse for her, and I wish she’d just let herself feel something for once.

I’m really excited because the actor let slip that things might finally move forward with a certain storyline as the show goes on! He specifically mentioned some really sweet scenes with Kris Marshall’s character, Humphrey, this season, which definitely has me hoping for some developments.

Usually, Esther is the one helping him with personal things. But this time, the roles are reversed – he’s the one offering guidance, and she’s letting him, which is something she rarely allows from anyone.

Beyond Paradise, Death in Paradise and Return to Paradise air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
