Peacock increases subscription price by $3 a month
NBCUniversal’s Peacock is rolling out a $3-a-month price hike for most streaming customers.
Effective July 23rd, Peacock Premium’s monthly price increases to $10.99, which is an uplift from the current rate of $7.99. Similarly, the cost for Peacock Premium Plus will rise to $16.99 per month, compared to its current fee of $13.99. The announcements were made public on Thursday.
For an annual subscription, customers have the choice between paying $109.99 for the Peacock Premium plan or $169.99 for the Peacock Premium Plus option each year.
A peacock isn’t the initial streaming platform to boost its prices, given that the expenses for sports and other content are increasing.
In January, Netflix hiked up the prices for most of their plans, and their ad-free standard plan now costs $17.99 per month, which is an increase of $2.50 compared to its previous price.

In simple terms, Disney is gearing up for a competition with Netflix, while HBO Max, NBC’s Peacock, Apple TV+, and Quibi are also getting ready to join the streaming service arena. Analysts, however, caution that this rapidly expanding market may not be hospitable to everyone.
Media firms are gradually increasing their charges due to the difficulties they face in shifting from traditional revenue streams that are lucrative yet dwindling, such as relying excessively on fees from pay-TV distribution.
In the springtime, it was discovered that more people were tuning into shows on streaming platforms compared to those watching through traditional linear channels. As traditional TV companies have been placing greater emphasis on their streaming offerings, this shift has become increasingly apparent.

Under the terms of the agreement, NBCUniversal and Peacock are set to contribute $1.5 million to the Los Angeles County’s Department of Consumer and Business Affairs, with an additional $100,000 earmarked for investigative expenses. Furthermore, they will pay a total of $2 million as civil penalties.
NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast, has experienced significant financial losses while developing its streaming platform, Peacock, over the past five years. Unfortunately, the rewards have yet to materialize as Peacock struggles to compete with services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and others in terms of subscriber numbers and viewership.
Based on their billing schedules, certain existing Peacock subscribers might notice price hikes appearing on their bills as early as August 22nd.
NBCUniversal announced plans to trial a fresh “Peacock Select” subscription level, offering the latest seasons of NBC and Bravo series along with archive titles. The cost for this tier remains consistent with the previous Peacock Premium pricing at $7.99 per month or an annual fee of $79.99.

Due to a decline in new subscribers since the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV+ have decided to raise their subscription fees.
The company touted its programming including “Love Island USA.”
During the fall television season commencing in September, Peacock plans to feature “Sunday Night Football,” NBA, WNBA, Premier League, Big Ten, and the Spanish version of the FIFA World Cup soccer tournament. Additionally, it will air the Super Bowl and the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics and Paralympics in February 2026.
Price increases are occurring as consumers grapple with prolonged periods of inflation and economic instability. Those who opted out of costly cable packages for more affordable streaming options may discover that the cumulative cost of these subscriptions can escalate rapidly over time.
