James Gunn recently answered fan questions about the show *Peacemaker* after the newest episode aired. He talked about the storyline involving Earth X and shared some surprising insights into what motivated Auggie Smith in that alternate reality.

James Gunn says Earth X’s Auggie Smith opposed ‘what the Nazis are doing’

James Gunn replied to fans on Threads, explaining that while Auggie is a fundamentally good person who dislikes the Nazis, the motivations of Keith and Chris 2 are much more unclear. He jokingly added that sometimes family members can be very different from each other – even across different worlds!

He explained that this version of Auggie is very different from how he’s shown in the main DC Universe, where he’s typically depicted as a villain with prejudiced views.

After the latest episode aired, it was revealed that Auggie, also known as Blue Dragon from Earth X, was actually against the ruling government’s cruel actions. He simply wanted to help Peacemaker and his team return home safely. Before he died, Auggie explained to Chris and Emilia Harcourt that he fought against those he saw as evil because it was the only thing he felt he *could* control. Sadly, his attempt to help ended in tragedy when Vigilante shot him.

Wow, that twist really got people talking! I was genuinely shocked to see Auggie and Keith presented as the… well, the *good* guys. It also made me think – was Auggie’s choice not to directly oppose the regime actually making him part of the problem? And that ending with Chris… heartbreaking.
