Frank Grillo, known for his roles as Rick Flag Sr. in Peacemaker and Bill Bevilaqua in Tulsa King, recently talked about the experience of physically fighting John Cena and Sylvester Stallone in their respective TV series.
Frank Grillo originally provided the voice for Flag Sr. in the first season of Creature Commandos. He then played the character in live-action in the 2025 Superman movie. Later, he appeared in the second season of Peacemaker and also joined the cast of Tulsa King for its second season.

In a recent E! News interview, Frank Grillo discussed working with John Cena and Sylvester Stallone. He hinted that his character, Flag Sr., would win in a fight against Cena’s character, Chris Smith (also known as Peacemaker), in a future episode.
When asked about his fight scene with John Cena’s character, actor Frank Grillo jokingly said, “Thursday, I beat him up.” The interviewer then pointed out Grillo’s upcoming role facing off against Sylvester Stallone in *Tulsa King* and asked what it’s like to play so many “tough guy” characters. Grillo playfully responded, “You should be asking *them* that.”
Grillo initially joked, but then quickly changed his tune, saying, “Actually, it’s amazing.” He explained that being opposite Stallone – someone he’d looked up to as a kid – and sharing a scene with the actor who played Rocky was a truly special experience.
Grillo praised Stallone, saying he’s incredible because he’s aware of how he impacts others and makes people feel comfortable. When the interviewer mentioned Stallone’s humility, Grillo explained that it’s necessary. Because Stallone is so highly respected, being self-deprecating helps him connect with people.
The actor revealed that Sylvester Stallone contacted him directly about appearing on Tulsa King before the second season even began. He explained that he immediately agreed, telling Stallone, “If I get to work opposite you, count me in – I don’t even need to see the script!”
The second season of Peacemaker started streaming on Max (previously known as HBO Max) on August 21, 2025. The third season of Tulsa King will follow on September 21, 2025, and Paramount+ has ordered a fourth season of that show.
