James Gunn shared some updates about the future of the Peacemaker series. While promoting his other work, he talked about a potential third season, the possibility of characters from Peacemaker appearing in other DC projects, and how the show fits into the larger DC Universe.
Peacemaker Season 2 finale won’t set up Season 3
James Gunn has revealed that the season two finale of *Peacemaker* won’t lead directly into a third season, according to Deadline. While episode eight will offer some clues, Gunn explained it isn’t a clear setup for future installments. He did mention that some characters might return in other projects, but clarified that doesn’t necessarily mean *Peacemaker* season three is happening – though he hasn’t ruled it out completely. Viewers will have to watch the finale to get a better idea of what’s next.
Currently, there aren’t any plans for a third season of Peacemaker. James Gunn has indicated that Peacemaker and other characters will appear in a different DC project, but not necessarily in the previously announced Waller series. He explained that the story will continue, just not through a typical Season 3 format.
Season 2 included significant connections to the wider DC Universe, most notably with appearances by Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. in Episode 6. These scenes helped set up the upcoming Superman movie, and were filmed during breaks in that film’s production. James Gunn explained that these connections – including the Justice League cameo in the premiere and a specific prison storyline – were planned from the beginning as part of a larger, interconnected story across both the TV shows and movies.
James Gunn recently confirmed that Robert Patrick’s character, Auggie Smith, is definitely not alive in another universe, despite fan theories. He hinted at a kinder version of Auggie existing elsewhere, and that we’ll learn more about this in the next episode. Gunn also highly praised Patrick’s performance in the series finale, calling it fantastic. While Peacemaker won’t be returning for a third season right away, Gunn assured fans that the show’s characters will continue to play a role in the future of the DC Universe.
