Peacemaker Season 2 BTS Image Teases New Monstrous Threat for John Cena

In the second season of John Cena’s HBO Max series, viewers can expect him to encounter a particularly terrifying being from the DC Universe, surpassing even the fearsome creatures like Starro and the Butterflies that he has previously battled.

What does the new behind-the-scenes image reveal about Peacemaker Season 2?

As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share an intriguing image I came across – it’s a close-up shot taken by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn featuring a chilling creature! The black rubber-suited beast sports four fiery red eyes, elongated talons, and a design that echoes the iconic Xenomorph from the Alien series. Interestingly, this monster is seen cradling a furless, rodent-like companion. At this moment in time, we’re left wondering what part this mysterious creature might play in Peacemaker Season 2.

As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that three years after the initial season, the second chapter of “Peacemaker” is upon us! Although it departs from the DC Extended Universe, the happenings of Season 1 remain significant within the narrative tapestry. To clarify any alterations between these realms, James Gunn has promised to elucidate the shifts through his latest endeavor – the Peacemaker Podcast.

One question people have been puzzled about since Peter Safran and I took over DC is: what exactly belongs to the DC Universe? To clarify, Superman’s world and the Creature Commandos’ world are the only ones that are undeniably part of it up until now,” Gunn said in the first episode of the podcast.

Events happening within the DCEU could be accepted as part of the DCU by being brought up or alluded to by characters. Gunn also mentioned that this will apply to Peacemaker Season 2 as well, stating that it is completely canon in the DC Universe; however, some adjustments needed to be made from Season 1.

In simple terms, the events portrayed in James Gunn’s 2021 DCEU film “The Suicide Squad” will be recognized as official within the DC Universe through a future plotline in “Peacemaker Season 2.” The character of Rick Flag Sr., played by Frank Grillo, will pursue justice or seek revenge against Peacemaker, as it was Peacemaker who killed Rick Flag Jr., a character from the superhero movie.

In the second season of Peacemaker, additional stars from the DCEU/DCU who are reprising their roles include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Steve Agee as John Economos, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Nhut Le as Judomaster, along with several others.

Peacemaker Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025.
