Paula Abdul settled sexual harassment lawsuit with fellow reality show judge Nigel Lythgoe ‘for millions’
As a long-time fan of Paula Abdul and her captivating talent, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon reading this news. It’s heartbreaking to learn about the alleged incidents she experienced, especially knowing that she has been an inspiration to millions around the world through her dancing, singing, and judging on popular reality shows.
American television personality Paula Abdul has resolved a sexual harassment dispute with her co-judge on a reality show, Nigel Lythgoe, for an amount in the millions.
75-year-old Lythgoe, known as ‘Nasty Nigel’ from the ITV talent show Popstars, and later the producer of Pop Idol and American Idol, refuted Ms Abdul’s allegations that he forcefully pulled her into an elevator and kissed her without consent.
62-year-old Ms. Abdul, a previous performer in music and dance who collaborated with Lythgoe on American Idol and served as a judge alongside him on So You Think You Can Dance, claimed that he also physically abused her on the couch of his Los Angeles residence following a work dinner.
Cheshire-born Lythgoe described the allegations as ‘an appalling smear’.
Ms. Abdul, the Grammy winner, expressed her gratitude that this particular phase has ended favorably, allowing her to move forward and leave it in the past.
The accusations stem back to the year 2000, however, Ms. Abdul stated that she chose not to speak up until lodging her complaint in California the previous year, primarily because she was apprehensive about criticizing one of the most renowned television competition show producers. This is what court records indicate.

She claimed that the initial instance of sexual assault took place during the filming of American Idol auditions, a show that debuted in 2002, where she was with Lythgoe at the time.
According to Ms. Abdul, Mr. Lythgoe forcefully kissed her in an elevator at their hotel following a full day of filming, and he aggressively inserted his tongue into her mouth.
Her lawyers last night filed a ‘notice of settlement’ in
The Los Angeles Superior Court, pending judicial approval, is the location of the settlement (currently undisclosed). Sources familiar with the situation informed the MoS that the settlement amount is substantial, though both parties have chosen to remain silent about its specifics.
