Paul Young’s Horrific Fall in Santorini Leaves Him in Intensive Care!
Paul Young was left in intensive care following a horrific fall while on holiday in Santorini last year, he has revealed.
The well-known pop artist, aged 69, was vacationing with his wife, 53, at the De Sol Hotel and Spa on a Greek island when he sustained a terrible injury that caused him to cry out in pain.
Paul was making his way downstairs towards breakfast during a heavy rainfall, but his foot slipped on a stair, causing him to fall, with a loud crack as he struck the step.
In this severe accident, Paul sustained numerous leg fractures and endured intensive surgery to insert a metal rod.
But after his surgery, Paul began haemorrhaging and was taken to intensive care where he received three emergency blood transfusions.
‘Once I’d gone down, I couldn’t stop,’ he told The Mirror on Monday. ‘There was no handrail, so nothing to hold on to. I just thought, “I’ve lost control”.’

Paul fell down three or four more stairs, resulting in continued fractures to his leg.
He mentioned that upon stopping, he noticed his leg was in an unusual position, positioned beneath him.
‘I thought “I don’t like that. My leg shouldn’t be like that”, so I tried to straighten it up and that’s when the pain started.’
His wife Lorna raised the alarm and Paul was rushed to Santorini General Hospital in Karterados – where x-rays showed multiple fractures to his left thigh bone.
‘I was screaming out all the time and most of the time I had my eyes shut because the pain was terrible,’ Paul said.
Santorini had no surgeons, so Paul was flown on a private flight from the Greek island to Mediterraneo Hospital in the capital of Athens for surgery on his leg to have a metal rod inserted.
However after his surgery, Paul suffered bad haemorrhages and had to stay in intensive care for two days where he received three blood transfusions.
Two weeks after being released from the hospital in Greece, I flew back to the UK using a private plane that was 30,000 feet lower than commercial planes due to my anemia and the risk of developing a life-threatening blood clot at high altitude.

After spending two days under observation at London’s exclusive Cleveland Clinic, Paul was equipped with crutches and headed back to his residence in Dunstable to commence recovery.
But his recovery was put in jeopardy in November when one of the bolts in the metal rod snapped.
Initially, Paul expressed that he seemed to be improving, but on a particular day, he awoke with intense pain, followed by undergoing an additional 10-hour operation to repair a faulty bolt.
Over the past five months, Paul has been through extensive physical therapy and hydrotherapy rehabilitation sessions, focusing on building up the strength in his leg using resistance bands.
Paul married Lorna in an intimate ceremony at Marylebone Registry office last July, six years after losing his wife Stacey Smith to brain cancer.
I exchanged a loving kiss with my partner at our heartfelt wedding ceremony, which was attended by numerous relatives and friends, among them the renowned figure, Thomas Skinner from The Apprentice. We were overjoyed to be greeted by our cherished loved ones after the romantic event.
In October 2023, Paul revealed he was engaged to his girlfriend Lorna as he took to his Instagram to share a loved-up photo of himself and his then-fiancée.
Captioning the sweet snap, he wrote: ‘Lorna said Yes! We are both so happy and both looking forward to a wonderful future together’.

Lorna also took to her own Instagram to share another smitten shot of the couple, writing: ‘My world, my love, my everything, 5 years of joy, I could not love anyone more.’
The Love of the Common People hitmaker’s wedding came six years after he lost his wife to cancer.
Stacey, who featured in Paul’s second single “Come Back And Stay” video in 1983, passed away at age 52 in January 2018 after a two-year struggle with brain cancer.
In 1987, the pair exchanged vows in a heartfelt ceremony and subsequently had three children – Levi, Layla, and their son named Grady Cole.
Despite remaining married, the couple separated in 2006; it was during this period that Stacey gave birth to her fourth child, Jude, who is now 12 years old, with Israeli businessman Ilan Slazenger.
After having a breakup in the past, Stacey and Paul chose to rekindle their relationship in the year 2013. As a result of this reconciliation, Paul took on the role of stepfather to Jude.
Stacey received her diagnosis when she and Paul had been married for 30 years.
