Paul Mescal’s mother Dearbhla is in remission two years after her cancer diagnosis as his family reveal how ‘grateful’ they are
As a devoted fan of Paul Mescal, I cannot help but be moved by the courage and resilience of his mother, Dearbhla. Two years ago, their world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer, leaving their family in a state of crisis. But today, I rejoice with them as they share the wonderful news that Dearbhla is now in remission and no longer needs to undergo any more grueling chemotherapy sessions.
Two years after being diagnosed with bone marrow cancer, Paul Mescal’s mother, Dearbhla, is now in remission. (This paraphrased version maintains the original meaning while using clear and natural language.)
2022 brought a challenging time for the family of the renowned actor from Hollywood, as Dearbhla, aged 55, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and required treatment. Remarkably, she is now in remission and will no longer need to endure further demanding chemotherapy sessions.
Paul’s sister Nell shared with The Sunday Times: “Currently, she’s in remission, but it’s important to understand that the cancer she battles will not completely disappear. One must learn to accept and find peace with this reality.”
‘But, for now, she doesn’t have to do any more chemo. You have to feel grateful and I do.’
She expressed her elation: “I’m in remission!!! I’m grateful. Yes, I’ll still need to take pills and undergo regular blood tests. But above all, I’m Dearbhla – not Dearbhla with cancer – and I’m fortunate, ecstatic, and eagerly anticipating the exciting new chapters my life will bring.”
She added: ‘Gratitude does not encompass all I feel for [the doctors and medical staff].
1. “My kids’ affection, my spouse, my family, and closest companions, your support, the prayers of countless individuals, and positive energy dispatched to the cosmos sustained me during tough periods and gave me a boost when I was about to collapse.”
‘My cup runneth over and my heart will forever hold yours. Thank you … now guys what’s next ???’
Earlier, the actor who plays the lead role in Normal People, confessed that he experienced a panic attack on set after learning that his mother was diagnosed with cancer.
During the filming of “All of Us Strangers,” at age 28, the actor found it difficult to handle the unexpected news.
In an interview with Esquire UK, he shared: “We learned about it, and for a while, I chose not to deal with it directly.”
On a particularly challenging day while preparing for a shoot, an old, unpleasant episode of a panic attack resurfaced – something I hadn’t experienced in years.
In all honesty, that was most likely the largest one I’ve ever experienced. I feel rather embarrassed, not because I believe them to be embarrassing, but due to the very public nature of the event.
Drawing from my personal journey, I’ve come to understand the importance of acknowledging and embracing one’s emotions. At times, I’ve found myself numb, unable to feel anything amidst the chaos, channeling those feelings into my work instead. However, I’ve learned that this can only be sustainable up to a certain point. In the heat of the moment, my body would insistently demand that I tap into my own emotions and experiences, urging me to connect with myself more deeply. It’s an essential part of growth, nurturing emotional resilience and fostering a richer, more authentic life.
